No. 17 women's lacrosse advances to NE10 Semifinals after downing No. 16 Bentley, 11-10

WALTHAM, Mass. – The nationally-ranked Saint Anselm College women's lacrosse grabbed its third-ever win in the Northeast-10 Conference postseason with an 11-10 win over Bentley University on Tuesday.

With the win, the Hawks, who are ranked No. 17 in the most recent ILWomen/IWLCA Division II National Poll, matched a program record for wins in a single season at 13, improving to 13-4. The Falcons drop to 10-7 on their season and will now have to wait the NCAA Division II Women's Lacrosse Draw Show to learn of their NCAA postseason fate.

Saint Anselm will now head to the top-seed and the No. 2 team in the ILWomen/IWLCA Division II National Poll in Pace University on Friday, May 5.

Senior Taylor Cobain (East Greenwich, R.I.) led all student-athletes with four goals in the contest while junior Jess Sullivan (Wrentham, Mass.) potted three goals. Both student-athletes recorded an assist in the game and posted five points and four points respectively. Junior Alison Ferullo (North Andover, Mass.) chipped in with two goals.

Sullivan became just the 13th student-athlete in program history to reach 100 career goals as she now sits on 101 in her time on the Hilltop.

Sophomore Elizabeth Driscoll (Marblehead, Mass.) posted her 10th game this season and her sixth-consecutive game with double-digit saves as she posted an 11-save effort for the Hawks in the win.

The Falcons took an early 2-0 lead behind goals from Kenzie Lupton at 13:23 and Maeve Johnson at 9:18. However, the Hawks responded with two of their own from the crosses of Sullivan at 8:10 and Cobain with just 19 seconds left in the first quarter.

Bentley netted three goals in a 54-second window to take a 5-2 lead as Lupton netted a pair before Caroline Aufiero registered the third goal of the streak at 9:03. Cobain and Sullivan registered their second goals each which sandwiched a goal from Caroline Affolter as the team's headed to the half with the Falcons in front by a 6-4 score.

Saint Anselm held Bentley off the scoreboard for the entire third quarter and in doing so, would lead 7-6 through 45 minutes of play. Senior Lexi Palmisano (Woburn, Mass.) opened the second half scoring just 41 seconds in before Ferullo knotted the score. A goal from Cobain with 1:06 left in the period pushed the Hawks in front.

Sullivan and Ferullo opened the fourth with one goal each in the opening two minutes which extended the lead to 9-6. However, Bentley would net each of the next three goals to tie the score at nine. Courtney Dermody and Stephanie McAuliffe combined for the goals on the three-goal run.

With 7:45 left in regulation, junior Maggie Fitzgerald (Holliston, Mass.) gave the Hawks the lead once more before Cobain added some extra insurance at 2:37.

Bentley would get a goal from Kathryn Slattery to pull to one at 11-10 with just 51 seconds left. The Hawks defense would force a turnover as they did not allow Bentley to attempt a shot in an effort to tie the score, walking away with the 11-10 win.

The Falcons held a 32-29 advantage in shot attempts including a slight 21-20 edge in shots on goal. Both sides scooped up 14 ground balls but Bentley grabbed 15 draw controls to 10 for Saint Anselm.

Palmisano and sophomore Samantha Rivet (Sudbury, Mass.) led the Hawks with three draw controls apiece while junior Erin Doyle (Weymouth, Mass.), senior Annabelle Harrington (Tyngsborough, Mass.), and Rivet caused one turnover each.
