PREVIEW: No. 15 Men's Lacrosse heads to No. 11 Pace in NE10 First Round

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The nationally-ranked Saint Anselm College men's lacrosse team heads to Pace University in the First Round of the Northeast-10 Conference Men's Lacrosse Championship on Saturday, Apr. 29.

The Hawks, who enter the six-team postseason tournament as the fifth seed, closed the 2023 regular season with a 15-13 win over Assumption University. With the win, the Hawks moved to 8-3 on the season with a 7-3 record in NE10 contests.

The Setters downed the College of Saint Rose by a 10-9 score on Apr. 22, improving to 11-3 on the season with a 7-3 mark against the NE10. Pace claimed the fourth seed after holding the head-to-head tiebreaker with the Hawks.

The winner of this First Round matchup will advance to the Semifinal Round of the tournament and will head to Syracuse, N.Y. to face the top-seed in Le Moyne College on Wednesday, May 3.

HAWKS NOTES
  • The Hawks are ranked No. 15 in the most recent United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division II National Poll.
  • Saint Anselm is also ranked sixth in the latest edition of the North Region rankings, which were released on Apr. 23.
  • Junior Noah Larsen (Northborough, Mass.) leads the Hawks with 33 points on the season. The junior has scored 18 goals, which ranks third on the roster, and has assisted on a team-high 15 goals.
  • With just two points, Larsen will reach the 100-career points mark. In 38 career games on the Hilltop, the junior has scored 54 goals while assisting on 44 others.
  • Senior Jack Andrews (Cumberland, R.I.) is the Hawks scoring leader with 26 goals on the season. He has assisted on four others to total 30 points which is second on the team.
  • Senior Jack Robinson (Wilbraham, Mass.) follows closely with 29 points on 19 goals and 10 assists.
  • Senior Craig Yannone (Lynnfield, Mass.) leads the Hawks with 62 ground balls this season and has won 97-of-162 faceoffs, good for a 0.599 faceoff win percentage.
  • Yannone needs just 10 ground balls to match Justin Steele '14 for the program record in career ground balls.
  • Junior Jonathan Holland (Derry, N.H.) leads the Hawks with 13 caused turnovers while senior Ethan Dolan (Littleton, Mass.), junior Henry Alford (Southborough, Mass.), and senior Ryan Slattery (North Andover, Mass.) all have double digit caused turnovers this season.
  • Senior David Olsen (Salem, N.H.) has started in all 11 games for the Hawks this season. Olsen owns an 8.15 goals-against average and a 0.527 save percentage. The senior ranks third in the conference in goals-against average.
SCOUTING PACE
  • The Setters moved up to No. 11 in Monday's edition of the USILA Division II National Poll.
  • Pace also found itself in the North Region rankings, slotting into the No. 5 slot.
  • Anthony Caputo and Daniel Zabbia rank first and second on the Setters roster with 52 and 51 points apiece. Caputo is second on the team with 28 goals while leading with 24 assists.
  • Zabbia is the team leader and is second in the conference with 45 goals scored.
  • Ryan Brown and Jake Veres have both netted 20 or more goals in 2023.
  • Maxwell Streety is second in the conference with 125 ground balls and in faceoff wins at 194. Streety owns a 0.599 faceoff win percentage.
  • Ryan Mimnaugh is the conference leader in caused turnovers with 25.
  • Louis Ragusa has started all 14 games in the goal for Pace. Ragusa has an 8.93 goals-against average with a 0.533 save percentage. Ragusa is fourth in the NE10 in goals-against average.
ALL-TIME, NE10 POSTSEASON
  • The Hawks own a 6-15 record all-time in the NE10 postseason.
  • Saint Anselm has reached the semifinal round on three occasions and has advanced to the finals twice, finishing as the runner-up both times.
  • In 2022, the Hawks dispatched Southern New Hampshire by an 18-6 score on Apr. 30 before falling by a 15-11 score at Le Moyne on May 4, ending Saint Anselm's chance at its first NE10 title.
  • The last time Pace and Saint Anselm met in the NE10 postseason came in the Semifinals of the 2021 NE10 Championship. The Hawks posted a 12-10 win to advance to the Championship Game.
ALL-TIME vs. PACE
  • The Hawks and Setters have met 27 times in the all-time series with Pace holding a 17-10 advantage over Saint Anselm in men's lacrosse.
  • On Apr. 19, the Setters netted two goals in the final 1:23 of regulation, including the eventual game-winner with just 11 seconds remaining, to take the contest by a 10-9 score.
