No. 17 women's lacrosse charges past No. 20 New Haven, 15-13

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The nationally-ranked Saint Anselm College women's lacrosse team collected a 15-13 win over nationally-ranked University of New Haven on Saturday from Grappone Stadium.

With the win, the Hawks, who are ranked No. 17 in the most recent ILWomen/IWLCA Division II National Poll, move to 11-3 on the season with a 7-3 record in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Chargers, who are No. 20 in the same poll, drop to 9-6 overall and 6-4 in conference play.

The Hawks win on Saturday is the 11th of the season and is the second most in a single season in program history. The only squad with more wins in a single season was the 2014 team who posted 13.

Junior Alison Ferullo (North Andover, Mass.) led the Hawks with four goals while senior Lexi Palmisano (Woburn, Mass.) and junior Jess Sullivan (Wrentham, Mass.) netted three goals each.

Palmisano and Ferullo combined for a pair of Hawks goals less than one minute apart, giving the Hawks a 2-0 lead with 11:12 remaining in the first quarter. Justine Doyle potted the first New Haven goal of the contest at 10:17.

Ferullo netted her second of the game with 4:52 left in the first which was answered by Cameryn Antler just 53 seconds later. However, Ferullo would net back-to-back goals to give Saint Anselm a 5-2 lead.

Antler netted a last minute goal to close the first 15 minutes of action with the Hawks in front, 5-3.

Senior Meghan Cotraro (Beverly, Mass.), Palmisano, and senior Taylor Cobain (East Greenwich, R.I.) would net one goal apiece headed to the midway point of the second quarter. Cobain's tally reestablished a three-goal lead for the Hawks at 8-5.

New Haven netted three consecutive goals to tie the score headed to halftime at eight for each side.

After a goal by sophomore Samantha Rivet (Sudbury, Mass.), New Haven would score back-to-back goals to take its first lead of the contest at 10-9.

Saint Anselm responded throughout the third as they used a four-goal run to regain the lead. On that run, Sullivan netted three consecutive goals while Palmisano scored her third of the contest to conclude the stretch which gave the Hawks a 13-10 lead.

The Chargers opened the fourth quarter with three consecutive goals which tied the score at 13 with 5:26 remaining in regulation. Junior Erin Doyle (Weymouth, Mass.) would go on to score the eventual game-winning goal with 2:49 left in the fourth before Cobain added an insurance tally, giving the Hawks the 15-13 win.

Sophomore Elizabeth Driscoll (Marblehead, Mass.) turned aside 13 shots on goal in the contest, marking her seventh game this season with double digit saves.

Doyle claimed a game-high nine draw controls and scooped up four ground balls while Palmisano caused a team-high three turnovers.

New Haven held a 34-31 edge in shot attempts including a 26-25 advantage in shots on goal. The Chargers collected 11 ground balls to 10 for the Hawks but Saint Anselm grabbed 18 draw controls compared to 13 for New Haven.

Saint Anselm will be back in action on Wednesday, Apr. 26 with an NE10 battle at nationally-ranked Bentley University. The contest is slated for a 7 p.m. start from Waltham, Mass.
