MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College baseball team was swept by crosstown rival Southern New Hampshire University in its Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division twinbill on Sunday from Penmen Field.
The Hawks drop to 4-21 on the season with a 0-4 record in conference play while the Penmen improve to 19-8 overall and 8-0 in NE10 Northeast Division battles. Saint Anselm is scheduled to make its home debut on Friday, Apr. 7 and Saturday, Apr. 8 with a pair of league doubleheaders against Saint Michael's College.

Zack Clough (Newbury, Mass.) led the Hawks with three hits on the doubleheader in five at-bats. Clough also crossed the plate twice between the games. Senior
Mike Borrelli (Salisbury, Mass.) drove in three runs on the day with junior
Richie Williams (Georgetown, Mass.) collecting two RBIs.

Mike Pierro (North Andover, Mass.) grabbed his 100th career hit with a single in game two of the twinbill.

Jared Reminder (Warwick, R.I.) recorded starts in the doubleheader on the mound for the Hawks. Seniors
Travis MacMurdo (Tewksbury, Mass.) and
Mark Monahan (Quincy, Mass.) combined to allow just one hit in 4.1 innings of work on the day.
GAME ONE: Southern New Hampshire 12, Saint Anselm 5
The Penmen would get runners on first and second in the bottom of the first inning with no outs. However, French managed to get out of the jam with a fly out and a double play.
Southern New Hampshire would strike first and total seven runs in the bottom of the third inning. A walk and a pair of singles loaded the bases for
Cristian Mercedes who was hit by a pitch to score one run.
Mike LaRocca followed with a two-run single before
Nick Schwartz added two more runs on a double.
Cam Caraher singled to score Schwartz before
Kyle Lavigne singled later in the frame to cap the seven-run inning.
Saint Anselm managed to get runners to second and third in the top of the fourth inning but a line out got the Penmen out of the scoring chance.
The Penmen tacked on five more runs in their half of the fourth inning. Caraher drove in one run after the first two batters reached via walk and single.
Dyrenson Wouters scored two runs on a single before
Jorge Burgos and
Harry Vargas Segura were credited with an RBI single and a sacrifice fly to push the lead to 12-0.
The Hawks pushed across three runs in the top of the fifth inning as senior
Matt Collins (Beverly, Mass.) doubled to score junior
Aidan Dow (Lynn, Mass.) who was hit by a pitch to open the inning. Clough scored on single by Williams before Borrelli plated Collins with a sacrifice fly, making the score 12-3.
Saint Anselm added two runs in the top of the sixth inning as Williams reached base on an error. On the play, two runs would come in to score, pushing the score to its final of 12-5.
GAME TWO: Southern New Hampshire 6, Saint Anselm 3
After scoreless first inning, Southern New Hampshire opened the scoring in game two on a solo home run from
Jake Pisano. Wouters followed the big fly with a single and he would score on a double from Mercedes to make the score 2-0 through two innings of play.
Danniel Rivera led off the bottom of the third inning with a solo home run to push the score to 3-0. Southern New Hampshire added two more runs later in the inning on a bases loaded walk and a hit by pitch. Junior
Will Hunter (Middleton, Mass.) limited the damage as he got a strikeout to strand three runners.
Saint Anselm pushed the score to 5-2 on a two-run home run from Borrelli as he sent his second home run of the season over the right field fence. Williams who lead off the fourth inning with a hit by pitch, scored on the Borrelli big fly.
Southern New Hampshire added a run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the inning. The Penmen loaded the bases but Monahan would get out of trouble with a fly out.
The Hawks managed to get a pair of runners on base with no outs in the top of the seventh inning and after getting runners on the corners with one out, Clough would score sophomore
Daniel Scolaro (Quincy, Mass.) on a sacrifice fly. However, a pop out would close the contest for the Penmen, 6-3.
