Women's tennis secures 5-2 win over American Int'l

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's tennis team claimed a 5-2 win over American International College on Saturday from the Saint Anselm Tennis Courts.

With the win, the Hawks improve to 5-11 on the 2022-23 season while the Yellow Jackets drop to 1-12 on their season.

In doubles play, the Hawks and Yellow Jackets split at No. 1 and No. 2 but Saint Anselm came away with the point after winning by default at No. 3.

In singles, Saint Anselm claimed wins at No. 1 and No. 4 with American International winning at No. 2 and No. 3. However, the Hawks claimed two singles points after the Yellow Jackets defaulted at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, leading to the 5-2 triumph for the Hawks.

The freshmen doubles tandem of Irene Garbo (Assemini, Sardinia, Italy) and Camila Heredia Osante (Oaxaca, Mexico) fell by a 6-4 score at No. 1 doubles but sophomores Olivia Parzick (Bow, N.H.) and Abigail Svor (Lewiston, Maine) cruised to a 6-2 win at No. 2, which split the doubles play before the default.

For Garbo and Heredia Osante, it is the first time in doubles the pair has played together while Parzick and Svor played together on Saturday in their second doubles match of the season.

Garbo posted wins of 6-4, 7-5 at No. 1 singles, marking her ninth win in singles play of the season. That ties her for 10th in career singles wins and moves her into sole possession of eighth with nine wins in a single season at No. 1.

Sophomore Julia Casaletto (Rowley, Mass.) picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles which secured a second point in singles action for the Hawks before the pair of defaults. The win is the first of the season for the sophomore in singles play.

Parzick and sophomore Julia Svor (Lewiston, Maine) rounded out the Hawks competitors in singles action, competing at No. 2 and No. 3 singles respectively.

Saint Anselm will be back in action with its final home match of the regular season on Monday, Apr. 17. The match will come against the Wildcats of Daemen (N.Y.) University and is slated for a 3 p.m. start.
