PREVIEW: No. 11 men's lacrosse set for NE10 battles against Southern N.H., Bentley

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The nationally-ranked Saint Anselm College men's lacrosse team is set to host crosstown rival Southern New Hampshire University on Tuesday, Mar. 28 before heading to Bentley University Saturday, Apr. 1, both in Northeast-10 Conference play.

The Hawks suffered an 11-4 loss on Mar. 25 to nationally-ranked Adelphi University, dropping the team to 2-2 on the season with a 1-2 record in NE10 play. After the pair of games against the Penmen and the Falcons, Saint Anselm will hit the road and battle in-state foe, Franklin Pierce University on Wednesday, Apr. 5 from Rindge, N.H.

The Penmen suffered a 13-9 loss to the top team nationally in Le Moyne College on Mar. 25. That drops Southern New Hampshire to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in conference contests. Following the trip to the Hilltop, the Penmen host Pace University on Saturday, Apr. 1.

The Falcons grabbed a 17-9 win over Franklin Pierce on Mar. 25, improving the squad to 3-2 on the season and 2-0 in NE10 battles. Bentley heads to Assumption University on Tuesday, Mar. 28 before hosting the Hawks.

HAWKS NOTES
  • The Hawks dropped from eighth in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division II National Poll to No. 11 in the most recent release, following the loss to Adelphi.
  • Senior Jack Andrews (Cumberland, R.I.) leads the Hawks offense with 10 goals and 12 points, adding two assists to reach his season points total.
  • Junior Noah Larsen (Northborough, Mass.) is the Saint Anselm assists leader at eight. Larsen has scored two goals in 2023, bringing him to 10 points through four games.
  • Junior Chase Lilly (Trumbull, Conn.) and senior Jack Robinson (Wilbraham, Mass.) are tied for second on the team with six goals apiece.
  • Junior Nick Larsen (Northborough, Mass.) is third on the team in goals (5) and points (9) while ranking second in assists (4).
  • Freshman Quinn Gannon (Scituate, Mass.) leads the Hawks with 16 ground balls and in faceoff wins at 26. Senior Craig Yannone (Lynnfield, Mass.) is second on the squad with 23 wins from the faceoff x this season.
  • Junior Jonathan Holland (Derry, N.H.) leads the team with seven caused turnovers. Senior Ethan Dolan (Littleton, Mass.) secured a spot on the NE10 Men's Lacrosse Weekly Honor Roll after causing three turnovers and grabbing four ground balls against Adelphi.
  • Senior Ryan Slattery (North Andover, Mass.) is tied for fifth all-time in program history in career caused turnovers with 58 and can move into fourth with five caused turnovers.
  • Senior David Olsen (Salem, N.H.) has started all four games for the Hawks in the goal this season. Olsen is 2-2 with an 8.18 goals-against average and a 0.516 save percentage.
SCOUTING SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE
  • Chris Valentine leads the Penmen with 12 points, coming from a team-high eight goals while adding four assists, which are second most on the team.
  • Ryan Auger has a team-high six assists while ranking second on the squad in both goals (5) and points (11).
  • Gennaro Marra was won 42-of-75 faceoffs, good for a 56.0% win percentage. He also leads the squad with 30 ground balls this season.
  • Kyle Proulx is the Penmen leader with four caused turnovers, leading a group that has caused 15 turnovers this season.
  • Ronan DePaul has played in each minute of the three games in the cage for Southern New Hampshire. DePaul holds a 0.474 save percentage and a 13.33 goals-against average.
SCOUTING BENTLEY
  • The Falcons moved back into the USILA Division II National Poll, slotting into the No. 19 spot in Monday's poll.
  • Luke Jaber was named the NE10 Player of the Week on Monday. Jaber is fifth in the conference in goals with 18 and has added five assists for a team-high 23 points.
  • Nathan Alviti is second on the team in goals (11) and points (18) while sitting in a tie for second in assists (7). Conor Segreti leads the Falcons with eight assists.
  • Cam Bartolomeo has won 55 faceoffs which is fifth most in the NE10 while his 29 ground balls are ninth highest in the conference.
  • Bentley has caused 35 turnovers this season with Segreti leading the squad at six.
  • Jackson Tinsley has started all five games in the cage for the Falcons. Tinsley owns an 11.51 goals-against average and a 47.6% save percentage.
ALL-TIME vs. SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE, BENTLEY
  • Saint Anselm and Southern New Hampshire have met 31 times in the all-time series. The Hawks enjoy a 21-10 record against the Penmen in men's lacrosse.
  • The Hawks extended their current winning streak to eight games over the Penmen with an 18-6 win in the NE10 First Round on Apr. 30, 2022. Saint Anselm took both games over Southern New Hampshire in 2022.
  • The Hawks and Falcons will be meeting for the 30th time in the all-time series on Saturday and the second time this season. Bentley leads the all-time series by a 19-10 margin.
  • Saint Anselm has won six of the last seven meetings, including the most recent contest on Mar. 11 from Grappone Stadium. The Hawks soared to a 17-6 win in that contest.
