SPARKS, Md. – The nationally-ranked Saint Anselm College women's lacrosse team extended its winning streak to six games with a 21-4 victory over the University of Charleston (W.V.) from the USA Lacrosse Headquarters on Sunday.
The Hawks, who entered play on Sunday ranked No. 23 in the most recent ILWomen/IWLCA Division II National Poll, improve to 6-0 on the season. Saint Anselm has now reached 6-0 to start a season in two of the last three campaigns.
Saint Anselm last scored 21 goals in a game on Mar. 9 in a win over Post University. In that contest, the Hawks found the back of the cage 23 times, leading to a 23-4 win.
Senior
Lexi Palmisano (Woburn, Mass.) posted a season-high five goals and added two assists for seven points. With five goals on the day, Palmisano reached the 100-career goals mark. She is just the 11th student-athlete in program history to reach that milestone.
Junior
Jess Sullivan (Wrentham, Mass.) added three goals and three assists for six points in the contest. Junior
Alison Ferullo (North Andover, Mass.) also netted three goals while three others Hawks posted multi-goal efforts.
Sophomore
Elizabeth Driscoll (Marblehead, Mass.) made six saves on nine shots on goal in three quarters of action, moving to 6-0 on the season with the win. Junior
Tess Froio (Hull, Mass.) faced one shot on goal in 15 minutes of work in the game.
Palmisano got the scoring started just 1:13 into play before senior
Taylor Cobain (East Greenwich, R.I.) doubled the Saint Anselm lead with 9:22 left in the first quarter.
Destiny Jackson pushed the score to 2-1 with a goal for the Golden Falcons but the Hawks would use a 10-0 run to take a 12-1 lead with 8:51 remaining in the second quarter.
Allyssa Greaver snapped the scoring run but Sullivan and Palmisano netted one goal apiece to give the Hawks a 14-2 lead at the half.
Saint Anselm rattled off the first four goals of the third quarter to extend the lead to 18-2. On the run, freshman
Margaret O'Connor (Longmeadow, Mass.) netted her first collegiate goal.
Freshman
Julia Marsden (Norfolk, Mass.) opened the fourth quarter with her first collegiate goal before senior
Julia Silk (North Andover, Mass.) and sophomore
Kendra Sabotka (Rutland, Vt.) netted one goal each as the Hawks took the neutral site game by a 21-4 score.
Palmisano grabbed eight draw controls for the Hawks, who held a 17-12 advantage in that category. Ferullo matched a game-high two caused turnovers while junior
Erin Doyle (Weymouth, Mass.) scooped up three ground balls.
Saint Anselm was 13-for-15 in clears compared to 7-14 for Charleston. The Hawks held a 33-10 advantage in shots on goal.
The Hawks are back in action on Saturday, Mar. 25 when they battle American International College in Northeast-10 Conference play, scheduled for a 3 p.m. start from Grappone Stadium.
