MANCHESTER, N.H. – The No. 23 Saint Anselm College women's lacrosse team netted 10 first quarter goals on its way to a 17-7 win over American International College in Saturday's Northeast-10 Conference battle.
The Hawks remain unbeaten at 7-0 on the season and improve to 3-0 in conference play. The Yellow Jackets drop to 2-3 overall and 0-2 in NE10 contests.
The win marks the seventh consecutive win to start the season for Saint Anselm which is the second longest streak in program history. Only the 2014 squad has won more games consecutively to open a season as they posted eight in the 2014 campaign.
Senior
Taylor Cobain (East Greenwich, R.I.) and junior
Alison Ferullo (North Andover, Mass.) led the Hawks with three goals apiece. Five other Saint Anselm student-athletes posted multi-goal efforts on Saturday.
Cobain also led the Hawks with three assists as she went for six points on the day. Senior
Lexi Palmisano (Woburn, Mass.) went for two goals and two assists for four points with sophomore
Samantha Rivet (Sudbury, Mass.), junior
Jess Sullivan (Wrentham, Mass.), and Ferullo registering one assist each.
Junior
Isabella Stuzynski (Bedford, Mass.) opened the scoring just 51 seconds into the first quarter. A pair of goals from Cobain and a Rivet tally, gave the Hawks a 4-0 lead with 10:07 remaining in the opening stanza.
The Hawks would continue their scoring run as Cobain, Feullo, Palmisano, senior
Ellie Richards (Reading, Mass.), Sullivan, and Stuzynski all netted one goal on the remainder of the stretch to give the Hawks a 10-0 lead through the opening 15 minutes of play.
Kathryn Moody got the Yellow Jackets on the scoreboard at 13:32 but junior
Maggie Fitzgerald (Holliston, Mass.) would find the back of the goal to push the score to 11-1.
Jordyn Galgay and
Antonella Mikolyuk scored back-to-back goals for American International but a goal from Ferullo would send the teams to the half with the Hawks in front, 12-3.
Saint Anselm kept American International off the scoreboard in the third quarter and put up five goals themselves in the 15-minute window as the Hawks led by a 17-3 margin through 45 minutes of play.
American International netted four goals in the fourth quarter to push the score to its eventual final of 17-7.
In just over 50 minutes of play, sophomore
Elizabeth Driscoll (Marblehead, Mass.) made five saves on nine shots on goal, earning her seventh win of the season. Junior
Tess Froio (Hull, Mass.) came on in relief and made three saves.
The Hawks attempted 31 shots, putting 21 of them on goal compared to 22 and 15 for the Yellow Jackets. Saint Anselm held an 18-13 advantage in draw controls with senior
Meghan Cotraro (Beverly, Mass.) posting a game-high six.
Saint Anselm will host Queen City Cup rival Southern New Hampshire in an NE10 battle on Wednesday, Mar. 29 with the opening draw control slated for a 7 p.m. start.
