Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

No. 25 women's lacrosse secures 15-8 win at Southern Conn. St.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Behind a six-goal effort from junior Alison Ferullo (North Andover, Mass.), the nationally-ranked Saint Anselm College women's lacrosse team grabbed a 15-8 win over Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday.

With the win, the Hawks improve to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in Northeast-10 Conference play while the Owls drop to 3-2 overall and 0-2 in conference play. For just the third time in program history, Saint Anselm has won each of its first five games to a season, joining the 2014 and 2021 squads.

Junior Jess Sullivan (Wrentham, Mass.) led all student-athletes with seven points, coming from three goals and four assists. Ferullo followed with six points while senior Taylor Cobain (East Greenwich, R.I.) was credited with two goals and three assists for five points. Senior Lexi Palmisano (Woburn, Mass.) added a pair of goals and an assist in the game.

Palmisano and Sullivan both reached 100-career points in Saturday's contest. Palmisano now sits at 102 points on 95 goals and seven assists while Sullivan has registered 65 goals and 38 assists for 103 points.

The sides swapped two goals each in the first quarter before Palmisano gave the Hawks a 3-2 lead with just 1:12 remaining in the opening frame.

The Hawks netted six goals in the second quarter while holding the Owls off the scoreboard headed to the half. Ferullo tallied what proved to be the game-winner with just five second remaining before the intermission.

After a goal by Southern Connecticut State's Alexandra Ruel, sophomore Samantha Rivet (Sudbury, Mass.) scored her fourth goal of the season, which sparked a three-goal run for the Hawks which ended with Saint Anselm leading 12-3.

The sides traded goals throughout the remainder of the third quarter, two to each team, as the Hawks led 14-5 through 45 minutes of play.

Brianna Shaw wasted little time getting on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter as she found the back of the cage just 41 seconds into play. Ruel and Karlie Rowe pushed the Owls scoring run to three and cut the Hawks lead to 14-8 but a late goal by Ferullo, her sixth of the game, gave Saint Anselm its 15-8 win.

Sophomore Elizabeth Driscoll (Marblehead, Mass.) improved to 5-0 on the season after stopping a career-high 12 shots on goal in the win. Caelan Connors made 13 saves in the goal for the Owls.

The Hawks held a 28-20 advantage in shots on goal. However, the Owls collected 14 draw controls to 12 for Saint Anselm. Junior Erin Doyle (Weymouth, Mass.) and Rivet grabbed four draw controls apiece for the Hawks.

Saint Anselm will conclude its four-game stretch playing away from the Hilltop on Sunday, Mar. 19 when the Hawks take on Charleston (W.V.) from the USA Lacrosse Headquarters in Sparks, Md.
