Saint Anselm concluded the regular season with an 8-12 record against NE10 opponents, earning the No. 9 seed in the 13-team postseason. Pace, who was defeated by the Hawks on two occasions during the regular season, is the No. 8 team, courtesy of a 9-11 record versus the league.
Winners of the 2019 NCAA Division II East Region Championship, the Hawks have qualified for the NE10 postseason in each of the last six seasons. Pace is the reigning East Region Champions from the 2021-22 campaign.
Saint Anselm is looking to defeat Pace for the third time in 2022-23, the first time the Hawks have downed one opponent that many times since logging a 3-0 record against the Setters in 2003-04.
The winner of Friday's First Round fixture will travel to the top-seeded Dolphins from Le Moyne College on Sunday, Feb. 26 with a game time to be determined.
SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
- The Hawks are coming off a 67-59 loss at New Haven to conclude the regular season. Junior Gabby Turco (Wildwood, N.J.) scored 14 points with five assists, three steals and two rebounds in defeat. Senior McKenzy Ouellette (West Newfield, Maine) struck for 12 points with a team-best four steals.
- Senior Liv Robles (Wallingford, Conn.) was responsible for eight minutes and five rebounds in limited time against the Chargers. With one assist, senior Macy Spinks (Luton, England) reached 200 career assists in just 80 games on the Hilltop. She added eight points for the Hawks in the defeat.
- In the game prior against Saint Michael's, the Hawks conceded just 27 points in the game, the seventh-fewest points it has ever allowed in a single contest. The Hawks previously allowed 27 or fewer points against Georgian Court on Dec. 5, 1998.
- Saint Anselm leads the NE10 and is ranked 12th in NCAA Division II in free throw shooting, making 77.8% of its attempts at the charity stripe this season.
- Spinks ranks fifth in the NE10 in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.79).
- Turco has made 90.6% of her free throws this season, ranking eighth in the nation. Her 125 made free throws ranks 14th nationally and she is 48th in attempts (138). Her 39.2% field goal percentage (134-for-342) ranks ninth in the league.
- Robles checks in with 6.3 defensive rebounds per game, the third-most by an NE10 student-athlete in 2022-23, and her 0.85 blocks per game is the seventh-best rate in the NE10.
SCOUTING PACE
- Pace produces the second-most three-point basket attempts per game (19.2) and is fourth in treys per tilt (5.9) in the conference. The Setters are 12th in the NE10 in team field goal percentage (36.0%) and the squad's 56 points per game is 11th in the conference.
- Lauren Hackett leads the Setters in numerous statistical categories, ranking in the top-10 of the NE10 in assists per game (3.9), assist-to-turnover ratio (1.7) and three-point baskets per game (1.7). Her 404 career assists are the 18th most among active NCAA Division II student-athletes.
- Tower Lorde is averaging the eighth-most rebounds per game in the NE10 (7.5), including three per tilt on the offensive glass. Her 188 total rebounds is seventh in the conference.
- Arianna Stockinger is producing nearly one block per game (0.93), ranking fifth in the league, while Lorde is producing the ninth-most blocks per game in the NE10 (0.84).
- The Setters are coached by Carrie Seymour, in her 31st season at the helm of the Pace program. The team is in search of its second consecutive NCAA postseason appearance.
LAST TIME OUT vs. PACE
- Most recently, Saint Anselm toppled Pace at home by a 74-64 margin on Wednesday, Feb. 1.
- As a team, the Hawks were 18-for-19 (94.7%) from the charity stripe, ranking in the top-10 in single-game history. Turco led the way with a perfect five-for-five performance at the line, finishing with a game-high 21 points while adding eight rebounds.
- In the 61-37 victory over Pace on Tuesday, Nov. 22, the Hawks used a big 22-0 first-half scoring run on the way to the road win. Since the turn of the century, Saint Anselm has limited an opponent to 37 of fewer points on just eight occasions, most recently keeping Franklin Pierce to just 33 points on Nov. 14, 2018.
- Turco posted 22 points, making eight of her 11 field goals, while adding eight rebounds in just over 30 minutes of game play. Robles secured a career-high 11 rebounds, scoring as many points to record the first double-double of her collegiate career.
- Freshman Gina Gaccione (Rutherford, N.J.) cashed in with a career-high 11 points in 18 minutes, tallying five rebounds, with junior Alexa Quirolo (New Rochelle, N.Y.) scoring eight points off the bench with two triples to her credit.
ALL-TIME, NE10 POSTSEASON
- Saint Anselm won its first and only NE10 tournament title in 1990-91, defeating nationally-ranked Bentley by an 81-76 margin. The Hawks have finished as the tournament's runner-up on six occasions, most recently in 2019-20.
- The Hawks are 30-31 (.492) in the NE10 postseason after defeating American International in the First Round of play last season. Saint Anselm was tripped up in the NE10 Quarterfinals at Le Moyne, 64-60, and the season prior, fell to Stonehill in the NE10 Championship game.
- Pace is making its 19th appearance in the NE10 playoffs since joining the league prior to the 1997-98 season. The Setters are 12-18 (.400) across 30 games in the postseason, finishing as the runner-up during the 2006-07 season.
