Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's basketball cruises to 89-72 Senior Day win over Saint Michael's

MANCHESTER, N.H. - A well-balanced scoring attack pushed the Saint Anselm College men's basketball team to an 89-72 Senior Day victory over Saint Michael's College in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday.

Prior to the game, four of Saint Anselm's seniors - Owen McGlashan (Marlton, N.J), Matt Relihan (Lynnfield, Mass.), Miles Tention (Palo Alto, Calif.), and Preston Urbancic (Naples, Fla.) were joined by head coach Keith Dickson at center court and honored in a special pregame ceremony for Senior Day.

Sophomore Zac Taylor (Victoria, Australia) poured in a team-high 20 points, including 18 in the second half, and grabbed eight rebounds. Taylor was one of five Hawks to register double-digit point totals. Also scoring in double figures were McGlashan with 18 points, senior Tyler Arbuckle (Bristol, Conn.) with 17, and Tention and junior Matt Becker (Fairfield, Conn.) with 10 points apiece.

Saint Anselm (18-7, 14-5 NE10) trailed Saint Michael's (11-16, 5-14 NE10) by an 8-2 score just under four minutes into the game. However, a 19-0 scoring run by the Hawks quickly turned the tables and gave Saint Anselm a 21-8 lead.

During this stretch, Saint Anselm knocked down three pointers on four consecutive possessions, including two from McGlashan, the latter of which forced a Saint Michael's timeout at the 13:48 mark of the first half.

After the Purple Knights responded with a 10-7 run of their own, freshman Elias Rodl (Berlin, Germany) knocked down a triple to put the Hawks back up by 13 with 5:38 in the first. A pair of free throws by Arbuckle with 2:44 to go, gave Saint Anselm a 40-23 lead, their largest of the half.

McGlashan ended the first half with a team-high 14 points, going 3-3 on three-point field goals as the Hawks led 43-30 going into halftime.

In the first nine minutes of the second half, Saint Anselm outscored Saint Michael's 20-4 and led 63-36, which proved to be the largest lead of the game. Taylor led the Hawks with eight points during that stretch.

The Purple Knights trimmed the deficit to 15 points at the 5:49 mark in the second half, but Taylor quickly answered with a three pointer, followed by a traditional three-point play with just under three minutes to play in regulation.

Becker put the exclamation point on the win by scoring on a slam dunk with 1:08 to go, just before Relihan scored his only two points of the game to end Senior Day with an 89-72 victory for Saint Anselm.

The Hawks shot 53.7% from the field, including 39.1% from beyond the arc. They held the Purple Knights to just 41.4% shooting, while turning them over 11 times.

The Hawks wrap up the regular season on the road at New Haven on February 21 with the opening tip-off slated for 7:30 p.m.
