PREVIEW: Women's basketball to face in-state rival Franklin Pierce

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's basketball team heads to Rindge for a 1:30 p.m. showdown with the hosts from Franklin Pierce University.

Saint Anselm improved to 11-11 on the season last time out, thanks to a one-point victory over visiting American International on Tuesday, Feb. 7. The Hawks have now won four of their last five games and will play three of their final four regular season games on the road.

Franklin Pierce has played to a 7-16 overall record this season, coming into Saturday's game with a two-game losing streak while losing seven of its last eight. The one victory was a convincing 59-41 result at Saint Michael's on the first of the month.

SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM

  • Using a go-ahead layup from sophomore Melanie Hoyt (Stamford, N.Y.) in the game's final 10 seconds, Saint Anselm held on for a 50-49 victory over the Yellow Jackets. American International was out-rebounded by a 47-to-32 margin in defeat.
  • Junior Gabby Turco (Wildwood, N.J.) scored a team-best 11 points against AIC and produced a team-best 11 rebounds in the victory. Hoyt finished with 10 points and six rebounds while senior Liv Robles (Wallingford, Conn.) generated nine points, six rebounds, two assists and two blocks.
  • Saint Anselm leads the NE10 and is ranked ninth in NCAA Division II in free throw shooting, making 78.7% of its attempts at the charity stripe this season.
  • Turco has made 91.5% of her free throws this season, ranking fourth in the nation. Her 118 made free throws ranks 10th nationally and she is 29th in attempts (129).

SCOUTING FRANKLIN PIERCE

  • The Ravens are not too far behind the Hawks in free throw proficiency, ranking second in the NE10 with a 76.9% conversion rate. The team also ranks sixth in the league in turnovers forced per game (15.91).
  • Ines Gimenez Monserrat leads Franklin Pierce in numerous statistical categories, including points per game (15.3), minutes played per game (32.9), field goal percentage (40.6%), assists per game (2.9), and three-pointers made (36).
  • Franklin Pierce has the last-ranked three-point field goal percentage defense in the NE10 as opposing teams are shooting 35.2% from beyond the arc. The team is also last in the league with 18.6 turnovers per game so far this season.

  • Saint Anselm is looking for its 40th victory over Franklin Pierce in the all-time series – the Hawks have defeated just four other opponents 40 or more times.
  • Saint Anselm saw an 11-game winning streak over Franklin Pierce that dated back to Jan. 2, 2016 snapped in the earlier 63-60 loss to the Ravens this season.
