PREVIEW: Men's basketball to play at Franklin Pierce on Saturday

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's basketball team takes on Franklin Pierce University this Saturday, Feb. 11 at 3:30 p.m. in Northeast-10 Conference play.

Saint Anselm, receiving votes nationally in the D2SIDA Media Poll, has a 16-6 overall record this season following an 83-64 win at home over American International on Tuesday, Feb. 7. The Hawks will play three of their final four regular season games on the road, starting Saturday.

Franklin Pierce has compiled a 14-9 overall record but has lost two games in a row, dropping to 9-7 versus the league. Last time out, the Ravens posted a 75-67 home loss to Southern New Hampshire and lost by just three points on Saturday, Feb. 4 at Le Moyne.

SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM

  • Saint Anselm handed out 27 assists on Tuesday, using a well-rounded offensive effort to down visiting American International College by an 83-64 margin.
  • Senior Tyler Arbuckle (Bristol, Conn.) scored 23 points on 9-of-18 shooting, logging six assists, four rebounds and two blocks. Classmate Owen McGlashan (Marlton, N.J.) scored 15 points with eight rebounds and sophomore Zac Taylor (Victoria, Australia) produced 13 points with three rebounds and two helpers.
  • The Hawks are ranked sixth in NCAA Division II in fouls committed per game (13.2) and 10th in three-point field goal percentage (40.6%). The Hawks also lead the NE10 with 9.7 three-point baskets made per game.
  • Senior Miles Tention (Palo Alto, Calif.) is averaging 38:23 minutes played per game this season, ranking second in NCAA Division II, while Arbuckle is 10th nationally with 37:08 per tilt.
  • Junior Matt Becker (Fairfield, Conn.) and McGlashan rank sixth and eighth, respectively, in the NE10 with 7.5 and 7.0 rebounds per game. Becker's 5.77 defensive rebounds per game is fourth in the league and McGlashan is cleaning the offensive glass at a 2.14/game rate.
  • Keith Dickson, in his 36th season leading the Saint Anselm program, owns a career record of 697-359 (.660).

SCOUTING FRANKLIN PIERCE

  • The Ravens led by six at the break last time out against SNHU, but posted a 75-67 loss at home to the fast-charging Penmen. Southern New Hampshire poured home 41 second-half points, limiting the Ravens to just 27.
  • Franklin Pierce does not lead the NE10 in any category, but has well-rounded offensive and defensive statistics. The Ravens are second in the league with a 1.31 assist-to-turnover ratio and average 73.4 points per game, the fourth-best scoring offense in the league.
  • Defensively, the Ravens force 13.83 turnovers per game (fourth in the NE10) and commits just 12.4 turnovers per game itself, also ranking fourth in the league.
  • Brandon Kolek is pouring home 2.61 three-point baskets per game, ranking third in the NE10, while Jarnel Snow-Guzman has the league's sixth-finest assist-to-turnover ratio (1.61). Sean Trumper has made 78% of his free throws this season, the eighth-best metric in the conference.

ALL-TIME vs. FRANKLIN PIERCE

  • The Hawks are 42-20 versus the Ravens since the first meeting on Dec. 29, 1984, a neutral-site loss to the Ravens by a 51-50 margin. Franklin Pierce had previously won two in a row over Saint Anselm, both by double-digit scoring margins, but suffered a 94-78 defeat to the Hawks on Sunday, Nov. 27.
  • Since Nov. 19, 1999, the Hawks have posted a dominant 22-3 record in Stoutenburgh Gymnasium against the Ravens but Franklin Pierce has won 11-of-20 over Saint Anselm at the FPU Fieldhouse.
