TAMPA, Fla. - The Saint Anselm College women's basketball team was tripped up by Nova Southeastern University, 71-49, at the Tampa Holiday Classic on Monday afternoon. The Hawks are now 4-5 on the season after falling to the Sharks, who improved to a four-game win streak.

- The Hawks have a quick turnaround, playing their final game of the Tampa Holiday Classic against host the University of Tampa on Tuesday, December 19. The non-conference tilt is slated for a 12:00 p.m. start time.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Nova Southeastern jumped to a quick 7-0 lead with Jess Moors scoring five points in the opening run for the Sharks. Junior Melanie Hoyt (Stamford, N.Y.) got the Hawks on the scoreboard after finishing a contested layup. Sophomore Gina Gaccione (Rutherford, N.J.) made her first basket of the game off the assist from sophomore Tatum Forbes (Pawtucket, R.I.) to make it 9-4 Sharks.
- Saint Anselm closed the score gap thanks to an 8-0 run with Hoyt pouring in four points along with a made layup from senior Alexa Quirolo (New Rochelle, N.Y.) to make it a 13-12 game. Junior Katie Lemanski (Haymarket, Va.) finished off a driving layup for her first points of the contest with under three minutes left in the first quarter. Nova Southeastern capped off the quarter by going on an 11-0 run to take a 27-14 advantage.
- The Sharks continued their offensive momentum in the second quarter generating an 8-0 run to give them a 21-point lead. Forbes added three points after making a free throw attempt followed by a tough hook shot to bring the score to 37-17. Midway through the quarter, fifth-year Liv Robles (Wallingford, Conn.) scored her first points of the game on a layup. Nova Southeastern would head into the break with a 40-19 lead after scoring the last two baskets of the half.
- After Nova Southeastern started the third quarter with two consecutive layups, Hoyt answered for Saint Anselm with a made basket. At the 5:21 mark, sophomore Harmony Marquez (Rutherford, N.J.) completed an and-one play for her first points of the game which was soon followed by a good jumper from Robles to make it 49-26. With less than four minutes remaining in the quarter, Marquez finished a fastbreak layup. Robles scored four of the next six points for the Hawks, but the Sharks took a 26-point lead heading into the final quarter of the game.
- Forbes kicked off the scoring in the fourth quarter making 3-of-4 free throw attempts. Shortly after, Quirolo buried a three-point shot at the 6:30 mark followed by a good jumper from Forbes to bring the score to 65-42. Robles poured in six late points for Saint Anselm, but the Sharks would secure the win by a final score of 71-49.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Nova Southeastern shot 50.9 percent from the field while Saint Anselm made 19 of the 53 shot attempts for a 35.8 shooting percentage from the floor.
- The Sharks out-rebounded the Hawks 31-28 and converted 27 points off turnovers in comparison to Saint Anselm with 13 points off turnovers.
- The Sharks outscored the Hawks in the paint by a 50-34 point margin and held a slight 6-4 edge in second-chance points.
- Robles led the Hawks with 14 points (6-11 FG, 2-4 FT) along with a team-high seven rebounds and a steal. Forbes poured in 10 points (3-13 FG, 4-8 FT) as well as five rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
- Five Sharks scored in the double-digits with Nicole Scales leading the squad with 16 points (8-13 FG) along with three rebounds and two assists.
- This marked the first-ever meeting between these two programs with Nova Southeastern now 1-0 in the all-time series.
