NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior Katie Lemanski (Haymarket, Va.) and sophomore transfer Tatum Forbes (Pawtucket, R.I.) both set new career-highs in scoring as the Saint Anselm College women's basketball team used a huge second half to take down Georgian Court University on Sunday afternoon for their first win of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Saint Anselm and Georgian Court opened up the game trading baskets as the game got out to a 12-12 start. Forbes and Lemanski each scored four points to help the Hawks open up a 12-8 lead, but two quick baskets by the Lions evened the score. Four points by Imani Gillette and a layup with 18 seconds remaining in the first quarter by Safiatu Kolliegbo gave Georgian Court an 18-13 lead after one.
  • Saint Anselm stormed back early in the second quarter, as junior transfer Marta Pons Gomez (Sevilla, Spain) poured in a quick five points including a three-pointer at the 7:46 mark to cut the Georgian Court lead to just one point. Fifth-year Liv Robles (Wallingford, Conn.) also knocked down a triple two minutes later to help the Hawks retake the lead.
  • After Kolliegbo fired in a three-point field goal to put the Lions back in front, Robles went three-for-four from the free throw line and finished a layup in transition following a steal by Forbes to give the Hawks a 32-30 advantage.
  • Georgian Court went back up, 34-33, but a buzzer-beating three-pointer by Forbes gave Saint Anselm a two-point lead headed into halftime. Forbes finished the first half with 11 points and two steals, while Robles had eight points at the break.
  • The Hawks began to extend their lead in the middle of the third quarter. After a Robles mid-range jumper put them ahead by four points, Forbes fired home another shot from long distance and sophomore Harmony Marquez (Rutherford, N.J.) drove to the basket for two more off an assist by Forbes as the Hawks went ahead, 47-41.
  • With 2:48 remaining in the third, senior Alexa Quirolo (New Rochelle, N.Y.) drilled a three-point field goal to give Saint Anselm a nine-point lead. Forbes then made another defensive play, nabbing her fourth steal of the game, which led to the sophomore finishing a fastbreak score as the Hawks led by seven after three quarters.
  • With seven minutes to play in the fourth quarter, the tandem of Forbes and Robles got back to work on offense, with the pair orchestrating a seven-to-nothing run to pull ahead, 61-47. Robles connected on another mid-range jump shot, while Forbes drove to the basket for another layup. Robles capped off the stretch with her second three-ball of the afternoon assisted by Lemanski, resulting in a Georgian Court timeout at the 5:39 mark.
  • The Lions would fight to get back into the game, but Lemanski sealed the deal for the Hawks, scoring eight more points in the fourth quarter alone to extend the lead to 17, their largest of the game. Erika Aspajo made two more layups for Georgian Court, but Saint Anselm picked up their first win of the season, 73-60.
