HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Freshman goaltender Courtney Stagman (Andover, Minn.) was tested early in the opening minute of the game, stopping a shot attempt from LIU's Mikayla Lantto. After freshman Kyra Anderson (Regina, Saskatchewan) ripped the first shot attempt for Saint Anselm, Long Island would fire off four shots in the span of a minute, forcing four more saves from Stagman. Senior Brinna Martin (St. Michael, Minn.) would laser a shot on frame to force the first save of the game by the Sharks goalie Tindra Holm shortly after. Although the Hawks held a 17-16 edge in shots during the first period, the game would remain scoreless heading into first intermission.
- LIU started the second period by posting five of their first six shots on target, but Stagman stood her ground to keep the Sharks off the scoreboard. Both teams continued to exchange shots as the period progressed until Lantto found the back of the net at the 18:13 mark of the second period to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead.
- Less than a minute later, sophomore Brooklyn Schneiderhan (Helena, Mont.) answered for Saint Anselm, tying the game at 1-1 with her 10th score of the season off a helper from Martin. The Sharks, however, would snag a late second goal at the 19:38 mark to take a 2-1 advantage at the end of the period.
- Junior Gracee Donovan (Orchard Park, N.Y.) slotted the puck past Holm in the opening two minutes of the third period to level the score at 2-2. During the sixth minute of the period, the Sharks regained the lead on a power play goal by Ryane Kearns. Long Island doubled their lead at the 8:39 mark of the final frame with Ashley Morrow netting a goal to make it 4-2.
- The Hawks continued to battle offensively, registering 16 shots in the remainder of the game in comparison to just two shots by the Sharks, but Long Island would prevail with the 4-2 win.
