Women's Tennis Drop Match to Adelphi University, 6-1

Box Score GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The Saint Anselm College women's tennis team dropped a Northeast-10 Conference match to Adelphi University on Monday afternoon by a final score of 6-1. The Hawks are now

  • The Hawks play at Southern New Hampshire University on Tuesday, Oct. 10 for their final regular season match. The contest is set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
 HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Hawks started the match down 1-0 after falling in doubles action to the Panthers. Sophomores Irene Garbo (Sardinia, Italy) and Camila Heredia Osante (Oaxaca, Mexico) battled in No. 1 doubles but came up short, 6-4, to Katarina Liedbeck and Roisin Boyd. Saint Anselm would also suffer losses in No. 2 and No. 3 doubles spots by scores of 6-2 and 6-3, respectively. 
  • The Panthers extended their advantage to 4-0 following wins in No. 3, No. 4, and No. 2 singles spots. Garbo captured the lone singles victory for the Hawks in the No. 1 spot defeating her opponent by set scores of 6-3, 7-5 to make it 4-1.
  • Adelphi would secure the 6-1 win and improve to 7-1 in NE10 play after taking No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches. 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Garbo picked up her ninth win in singles action after defeating Sanne Selmer Gilje in the No. spot. 
  • Heredia Osante partnered up with Garbo for the seventh time this season in the No. 1 doubles and now holds a 4-3 record together for the Hawks. 
  • This marked the 14th meeting between these programs with the Panthers remaining undefeated in the all-time series with today's 6-1 victory.
