Women's Tennis Shuts Out Saint Michael's on Senior Day

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm women's tennis team celebrated their Senior Day match with a victory over Saint Michael's College (1-7, 0-7), 7-0, on Wednesday afternoon at the Saint Anselm Tennis Courts. The Hawks honored senior Katie Mahan (Bridgewater, Mass.) for her commitment to the program prior to the start of the contest.

  • The Hawks (4-4, 3-2) host the University of New Haven on Saturday, Oct. 7 for their next Northeast-10 Conference match. The contest is set the begin at 2:00 p.m. on the Hilltop. 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The No. 1 tandem of sophomore Irene Garbo (Assemini, Sardinia, Italy) and junior Olivia Parzick (Bow, N.H.) posted a 6-0 doubles win, with Saint Anselm also emerging victorious at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots to sweep the Purple Knights and take a 1-0 advantage heading into singles action.
  • The Hawks would go on to capture all six singles matches, taking each contest in straight sets. A triumph at No. 1 singles by Garbo, followed by a sparkling 6-0, 6-0, win at No. 2 singles by sophomore Camila Heredia Osante (Oaxaca, Mexico) set the stage for Mahan's victory at No. 6 singles to clinch the overall win for Saint Anselm on Senior Day.
  • The home side also posted victories at the third, fourth, and fifth singles, resulting in the 7-0 final score. Junior Abigail Svor (Lewiston, Maine) and junior Julia Casaletto (Rowley, Mass.) each had dominant performances against their opponents while Parzick battled with Molly Gannon to a 6-3, 6-4 triumph to eventually seal the fourth win of the year for the Hawks.
 INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 
  • Garbo and Parzick captured their second straight-set win at No. 1 doubles.
  • Heredia Osante improved her singles record to 5-2 on the season and also boasts a 6-1 mark in doubles action.
  • Julia Svor improved her doubles record to 5-2 as well with today's victory.
  • Garbo is now 7-1 in dual-match action in the No. 1 spot for the Hawks.
  • This marked the 40th meeting between these programs with the Purple Knights now holding a 23-17 lead in the all-time series.
