Women's Bowling Announces 2023-2024 Schedule

10/2/2023 5:15:00 PM

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's bowling team announced its schedule for the upcoming 2023-2024 season on Monday. Head Coach Tim Frye '11 will guide the Hawks for their second-ever season as a program after being introduced as the 19th varsity sport at Saint Anselm College last year.

"Philosophically, we want to be a fundamentally sound team that plays good defense," said head coach Frye. "In bowling terms, we want to make consistent and repeatable shots, while converting our spares at a high percentage. From a results standpoint, we want to finish in the top half of the field in our events. Last year, we found ourselves at the bottom quite often with some exciting positive blips throughout the season. I want our performance to be elevated and more consistent, which I feel is obtainable this season."

"Our returning players found themselves in uncharted territory last season as they were tasked with creating what it means to be a Hawk bowler," commented coach Frye when asked about how the returning student-athletes will help continue shaping the identity of Saint Anselm women's bowling. " That's very different than coming into a team, that already has established culture and creditability and, merely, finding your role. It pushed everyone outside of their comfort and they all did a fantastic job of growing both on and off the lanes. It has helped them reflect on the shortcomings of last season and there already has been a desire to correct those as we open our season. For our incoming players, having experienced teammates is a great asset. We still are creating our identity on the lanes, but we have a solid base to start from as we enter this season and continue to show the brand of bowling we want to portray throughout the year."

During the program's inaugural season, the Hawks closed out the year with 10 wins. Saint Anselm's first-ever traditional match victory in program history came against Virginia State University at the Lady Eagles Invitational on Nov. 19th. The Hawks defeated Virginia State by a convincing 740-491 score and would pick up another win over the Trojans during the championship round of the tournament.

"We want to build off the positives from last season," noted coach Frye. "We did an excellent job competing against some of the best teams in the nation. We want to be in the top half of events we participate in, which sounds like a massive leap, but this group believes that can be accomplished. We understand that our goals start in practice, the weight room, and in team meetings. We must engage and compete at the level we wish to be at all times, not just at tournaments."

The Hawks are scheduled to play in eight tournaments for the 2023-2024 campaign. Saint Anselm will kick off their second season at the Bud Whitman Memorial tournament on Saturday, October 14th.

When asked about what he is most looking forward to this season Coach Frye responded, "I am looking forward to watching this group continue to grow and cement what it means to be a Hawk bowler."
