HOW IT HAPPENED
- Early in the first period, senior goalie Mackenzie McConnell (Concord Township, Maine) made her first save of the game after denying a shot attempt from Morgan Martellio. In the fifth minute of the period, Saint Anselm got their offense going after winning three penalty corners. Martellio would make a defensive save on the third penalty corner following the first shot attempt for the Hawks by junior Abby Breznyak (Oakland, Maine). The Yellow Jackets goalie Taylor Wildes would tally three saves to keep the score level at 0-0.
- Both teams displayed their defense strength as only one shot was registered by sophomore Maggie Burchill (Braintree, Mass.) in the second period. At the 41:21 mark in the third period, Saint Anselm broke the scoring drought thanks to Forster slotting the ball in traffic into the bottom left corner of the cage to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead.
- The Hawks continued to apply pressure on American Int'l with junior Amanda Lewandowski (Franklin, Mass.) and senior Abbey Bevens (Pelham, N.H.) each firing a shot apiece in the opening minutes of the final period. Saint Anselm's sound defense kept the Yellow Jackets off the scoreboard as the Hawks would go on to seal the 1-0 win.
