Saint Anselm recently improved to 15-5 overall on the season following a narrow 70-68 victory at Adelphi on Saturday. The Hawks, ranked No. 23 in NCAA Division II (D2SIDA), are also receiving votes in the National Association of Basketball Coaches' poll.
Despite losing five games in a row entering play on Wednesday, the Setters still maintain a respectable 14-8 overall record. The team, however, has lost six of its first 14 games against NE10 opponents but did defeat the Hawks in convincing fashion on Tuesday, Nov. 22 by a 74-47 final.
SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
- The Hawks rank sixth nationally in fouls per game (13.2) and seventh in team three-point field goal percentage (40.6%). Saint Anselm actually ranks third in the NE10 in the former category, trailing national leader New Haven (10.8).
- Saint Anselm led by as many as 18 points on Saturday but settled for a narrow two-point win, 70-68, at Adelphi. Owen McGlashan (Marlton, N.J.) produced his third double-double of the season, scoring 21 points and adding 12 rebounds in the win.
- Miles Tention (Palo Alto, Calif.) tallied 19 points against the Panthers, matching McGlashan with four treys, and handed out three assists, and Tyler Arbuckle (Bristol, Conn.) cashed in with 14 points. The Hawks held on despite conceding each of the final eight points of regulation.
- Tention ranks second in the NE10 in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.77) while playing the league's second-most minutes per game (38:17). Arbuckle is not far behind in the latter statistic, checking in at 36:50 per tilt.
- Tention needs just six made three-point baskets to crack the program's all-time list for treys. He has 229 for the Hawks in 106 career games and his 42.6% conversion rate from beyond the arc is fifth all-time (min. 100 made).
- Keith Dickson, in his 36th season leading the Saint Anselm program, improved to 696-358 (.660) in his career at the helm after Saturday's win at Adelphi.
SCOUTING PACE
- As a team, the Setters are averaging league-low totals in points per game (53.5 ppg) and field goal percentage (34.2%) and has lost two of its last five games by double-digit point totals. From Dec. 17 through Jan. 10, the team won six in a row by six or fewer points in each tilt.
- The Setters are limiting the opposition to just a 40.4% field goal percentage this season, ranking in the top 20 in NCAA Division II. The team is also proficient on the offensive glass, hauling in 11.14 per tilt to rank second in the NE10.
- Lyron Bennett leads all of NCAA Division II in minutes played per game (39:05) this season. His 109 assists to date leads all NE10 student-athletes.
- Brandon Powell is averaging 15.4 points per game, the sixth-most in the NE10, and he leads the conference in field goal attempts with 271 to his credit. His 74.7% free throw percentage is the league's ninth-best figure.
ALL-TIME vs. PACE
- Saint Anselm is 25-11 all-time against Pace and has won 13 of the team's last 15 games against the Setters. When playing on the road at Pace, the Hawks have lost just three games in regulation time across 17 contests.
- Pace used scoring runs of 18-2 and 19-3 during the run of play last time out against Saint Anselm, producing a 74-47 win in Pleasantville, N.Y. The Setters shot 54.7% from the floor as Bryan and Brandon Powell combined to score 38 points.
