WINCHENDON, Mass. – The Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team suffered a 3-2 defeat in overtime to in-state foe Franklin Pierce University in Saturday evening's New England Women's Hockey Alliance contest.
The contest marked the 500th in women's ice hockey program history. The program played its first contests in the 2004-05 season.
The Hawks drop to 12-15-3 on the season with an 11-6-3 record in NEWHA battles while the Ravens improve to 11-12-3 overall and 8-7-3 in league games. Saint Anselm returns to action on Friday, Feb. 3 for a 4 p.m. opening puck drop against Saint Michael's College from Sullivan Arena.
Senior goaltender
Allie Kelley (East Berne, N.Y.) turned aside 38 shots on goal for the Hawks and eclipsed the 2,000 career saves mark in a Hawks sweater. Kelley now sits at 2,023 stops in 59 games in just two seasons on the Hilltop.
Franklin Pierce found the game-winning goal with just one second left on the clock in the overtime period. After a pair of shot attempts by

Emilie Prive buried a rebound chance to give the Ravens a 3-2 win in overtime.
Sophomore
Tyra Turner (Andover, Minn.) had the best scoring chance in the extra frame as she made a strong move by a Franklin Pierce defender but
Olivia Klunowski, who was making her collegiate debut in the Ravens goal, made the save on the play in the first minute of overtime.
After a back-and-forth battle through the first period, junior
Claire Weber (Marshfield, Mass.) converted on a low-angle shot to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead at 16:24 of the first frame. Weber roofed a wrist shot for her second goal of the season.
The Hawks would tack on another goal in the first period just 1:28 after Weber's opening tally. Turner collected a pass from graduate student
Kelly Golini (Tewksbury, Mass.) and managed to beat Klunowski, giving the Hawks a 2-0 lead through the first period.
Franklin Pierce cracked the scoreboard at 13:08 of the second period as
Cailey McLaughlin sent a snap shot into the upper left of the goal, cutting the Hawks lead to one at 2-1 through two periods.
The Ravens would tie the tilt with a power play goal at 12:39 of the third period.
Avery Farrell won a puck battle on the right hash mark and worked her way to the slot. Farrell sent a wrist shot through traffic and into the upper right of the goal.
Franklin Pierce held a slight 41-39 advantage in shots on goal and posted a 27-26 record from the faceoff dots. The Ravens were one-for-three on the power play while the Hawks did not get a power play opportunity in the the tilt. Each side blocked nine shots on Saturday with three Saint Anselm student-athletes posting two blocked shots apiece.
