MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team played to a 1-1 draw with visiting Saint Michael's College on Friday in New England Women's Hockey Alliance play.
Saint Anselm exits play with an overall record of 12-15-4 and moves to 11-6-4 versus the NEWHA. Saint Michael's, who remains in search of its first victory over Saint Anselm, heads into Saturday's 1 p.m. rematch with the Hawks at 1-20-3 (1-15-3 NEWHA) this season.
Sophomore Tyra Turner (Andover, Minn.), who set a single-season personal best by reaching 29 points last game got her team on the board just 7:04 into the game, slapping home a face-off victory by graduate student Kelly Golini (Tewksbury, Mass.) near the midpoint of the first period. The Hawks generated 17 shots on goal and limited the Purple Knights to just six, but settled for a 1-0 lead after one period.
The middle stanza saw Saint Anselm place 18 shots on goal and a stout defensive effort by the hosts kept the Purple Knights to just five on net, but neither team could break thorough. Five of the game's six penalties were whistled in the second period, but the teams combined to go 0-for-6 with the extra skater.
Just seconds after a penalty on Saint Anselm expired to start the third period, Saint Michael's Jenna Harrison put a shot on net from distance that eluded Hawks netminder Annabella Lalande (Lachute, Quebec, Canada) for the equalizer.
Saint Michael's netminder Carissa Mudrak was formidable in net for the Purple Knights, making 51 saves on 52 shots including several key stops late in regulation. The Hawks also had several solid looks in the overtime period, but could not beat the visiting goaltender.
Lalande produced 20 saves, including four in overtime as the Purple Knights tested the Hawks defense to begin the extra frame. She moves to 2-0-2 in her seven-game career on the Hilltop.
Saint Anselm held the 94-to-38 advantage in shots attempted and settled for a 52-to-21 differential in shots on net.
