DURHAM, N.H. – Taking on its second consecutive Hockey East opponent, the Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team posted a 4-2 loss on the road at the University of New Hampshire on Monday.
In the first meeting between two Granite State women's ice hockey programs, Saint Anselm drops to 11-11-1 on the season while the Wildcats improve to 7-14-0.
The Hawks jumped ahead by a 2-1 score in the second period as sophomore Audrey Jackson (Shoreview, Minn.) scored just 34 seconds after the Wildcats tied the game. However, UNH found the back of the net twice more on the way to the victory.
Senior Allie Kelley (East Berne, N.Y.) made 41 saves on 45 shots as New Hampshire capitalized twice on the power play. The go-ahead goal for the Wildcats was scored following a too-many-players bench minor with under seven minutes to go in the second period, negating a Hawks power play.
Graduate student Kelly Golini (Tewksbury, Mass.) gave the Hawks a 1-0 advantage, scoring for the fourth time in five games, just 12:58 into the affair off feeds from senior Margaret Sullivan (Burlington, Mass.) and junior Natalie Tulchinsky (Clifton Park, N.Y.).
Golini is now riding a seven-game point streak, scoring six goals alongside five assists (6-5=11). Tulchinsky has at least one point in all but three of her last 13 games while Sullivan has at least one point in each of her last two tilts.
Jackson's go-ahead goal was assisted by sophomore Tyra Turner (Andover, Minn.) and junior Maddy McCaffery (Weymouth, Mass.), rounding out the goal scoring on the evening for Saint Anselm. UNH, who held the 45-to-13 advantage in shots on net, overcame the one-goal deficit with three straight goals to conclude the game.
Ava Boutilier, who is third among active National Collegiate netminders in career saves, made 11 stops on 13 shots for UNH in the victory.
The Hawks head to LIU on Friday, Jan. 6 for back-to-back games with the Sharks.
