The Hawks are receiving votes in the most recent D2SIDA National Poll after posting an 81-74 win over nationally-ranked Saint Thomas Aquinas on Jan. 14. The Hawks are now winners in 10 of their last 11 games and are 12-4 on the season with an 8-2 in NE10 contests. Saint Anselm will play a pair of road games on Wednesday, Jan. 25 at Bentley and Saturday, Jan. 28 at Adelphi.
The Penmen grabbed their sixth-consecutive win on Jan. 14 at Le Moyne by a 60-53 score. The team is now 10-6 on the season and 7-3 in conference play. Southern New Hampshire hosts the Owls on Tuesday, Jan. 24 in their next scheduled contest.
The Owls had a nine-game win streak snapped by New Haven on Jan. 14, falling to the Chargers by a 58-51 score. Southern Connecticut State is now 12-5 overall and 7-3 in NE10 play and will host Le Moyne on Wednesday, Jan. 18 before coming to the Hilltop.
HAWKS NOTES
- The Hawks are also ranked third in the D2SIDA East Region rankings, moving up three spots from six in last week's poll.
- Senior Tyler Arbuckle (Bristol, Conn.) collected the NE10 Player of the Week honors after producing 20.0 points per game, shooting 13-for-22 (.591) on the week from the floor.
- Arbuckle leads the Hawks and ranks second in the NE10 with an average of 17.1 points per game. Arbuckle's 273 total points rank third in the conference.
- Senior Miles Tention (Palo Alto, Calif.) is averaging 15.2 points per game and is leading the squad with 4.0 assists per contest. His assists per game average ranks fourth in the NE10.
- Senior Owen McGlashan (Marlton, N.J.) and junior Matt Becker (Fairfield, Conn.) are fifth and eighth in the conference with 7.3 and 7.1 rebounds per game. McGlashan is adding 11.7 points per game for the Hawks while Becker sits at 9.5.
- The Hawks offense ranks second in the NE10 with an average of 76.3 points per game while the defense is ninth, allowing 72.4 points per contest.
SCOUTING SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE
- Matt Becht, Ethan Okwuosa, and Evan Guillory are all averaging double-digit scoring for the Penmen. Becht leads the squad at 15.4 points per game while Okwuosa and Guillory sit at 12.2 and 11.1 respectively.
- Okwuosa is pulling down a team-high 6.6 rebounds per contest with Guillory following closely at 6.1.
- In the transition game, Okwuosa has 40 assists, good for an average of 2.5 assists per game. Becht has 37 helpers, good for 2.3 per contest.
- Southern New Hampshire is ranked fifth in the most recent D2SIDA East Region poll.
- The Penmen defense is second in the NE10 and is limiting opponents to 64.8 points per game. The offense ranks 11th with an average of 68.2 points per game.
SCOUTING SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT STATE
- Ulyen Coleman leads the Owls offense at 14.9 points per game. He is one of three student-athletes to start in all 17 games to date.
- Marty Silvera sits at 12.5 points per contest which are second most on the team with Sean James ranking third at 11.4. Silveria is second in the conference in assists per game at 4.8. He has a total of 81 assists this season.
- Cherif Diarra ranks third in the NE10 at 8.6 rebounds per game. Diarra has started all 17 games and is averaging 6.8 points per game.
- Southern Connecticut State is sixth in the D2SIDA East Region Poll.
- The Owls offense is averaging 71.7 points per game which is seventh best in the NE10. On the defensive side of play, the team holds the third lowest mark in the conference at 65.4 points allowed per game.
ALL-TIME vs. SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE, SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT STATE
- The Hawks and Penmen are battling for the 76th time in the all-time series on Wednesday. Saint Anselm holds a 39-36 record against Southern New Hampshire.
- The programs split a pair of contests last season with the Hawks posting a 74-66 win on Nov. 23, 2021 before the Penmen grabbed a 71-62 win on Feb. 8, 2022, marking the most recent meeting in the series.
- Saint Anselm and Southern Connecticut State will be meeting for the 48th time on Saturday. The Hawks enjoy a 32-15 record in the series.
- Saint Anselm has won eight of the last nine matchups with the Owls including both meetings in the 2021-22 season. The Hawks grabbed wins on Feb. 21, 2022 and Feb. 26, 2022 by 74-60 and 85-65 scores.
