MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's ice hockey team was saddled with a 3-1 defeat by visiting Stonehill College on Saturday at Sullivan Arena in non-conference play.

Saint Anselm drops to 11-7-1 on the year while Stonehill, in its first season as an NCAA Division I independent, improves to 13-2-2. The Skyhawks were a long-time member of the Northeast-10 Conference in men's ice hockey.

After a scoreless first period, Stonehill scored three times in the second stanza to secure the victory. The first two markers came within 1:09 of each other in the period's first two-plus minutes and the final goal came near the midpoint of the second. The Hawks attempted a game-high 26 shots in the middle period.

Sophomore Chase Reynolds (Middletown, Conn.) scored his ninth goal of the season with 5:10 to go in the third period, putting Saint Anselm on the board with a wrist shot from the left-wing corner. Freshmen Luke Linart (Holland, Mich.) and Alex Hoitt (East Bridgewater, Mass.) picked up helpers on the play – for Hoitt, it was the first point of his career.

Senior Nick Howard (Burlington, Mass.) made 26 saves on 29 shots for Saint Anselm in net while his counterpart, Gavin FitzPatrick, conceded just one goal on 34 shots on net. The Hawks held the statistical edges in shot attempts (60-to-58) and shots on goal (33-to-29) in the defeat.

David Borges, the Head Coach of the Skyhawks, secured his 100th career victory with Saturday's result.

Saint Anselm will continue non-conference play on Tuesday, Jan. 17, welcoming the Rams from Framingham State University to campus for a 6 p.m. showdown.
