PHILADELPHIA – The Saint Anselm College women's basketball fell at regionally-ranked Holy Family University on Tuesday by a 72-57 margin in non-conference play.
Saint Anselm falls to 6-9 overall on the year while Holy Family, ranked eighth in the East Region according to the D2SIDA Media Poll, has won seven games in a row and moves to 12-5 on the season.
Senior Liv Robles (Wallingford, Conn.) scored 13 points with six rebounds while junior Gabby Turco (Wildwood, N.J.) had 11 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals. Freshman Gina Gaccione (Rutherford, N.J.) scored nine points for the Hawks in defeat.
Holy Family scored 11 of the game's first 13 points, jumping out to an early lead. The Hawks scored seven of the first quarter's final nine points, but mustered just nine points in the opening 10 minutes.
Saint Anselm was limited to just six second-quarter points leading up to halftime, trailing by a 32-15 margin at halftime as Holy Family was 8-for-19 from the floor and won 16 of the stanza's 20 rebounds.
The Hawks trailed by as many as 22 points late in the third quarter, but responded with scoring runs of 11-4 and 13-4 at two separate points in the second half to cut the deficit to 11 points, 62-51. Saint Anselm could not overcome a 15-point first half, however, despite a 26-point fourth quarter.
Saint Anselm was 0-for-11 from distance, but Holy Family was just 2-for-14 from beyond the arc. The Tigers had 42 rebounds while Saint Anselm picked up just 28.
The Hawks head to Felician on Thursday, Jan. 12 at 1 p.m. to conclude non-conference play this season.
