PREVIEW: Women's tennis set for three NE10 matches

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Fresh off its first Northeast-10 Conference win of the season, the Saint Anselm College women's tennis team will head to Bentley University on Wednesday, Sept. 28 before hosting Franklin Pierce University on Friday, Sept. 30. To close out the week, the Hawks will head to Le Moyne College on Sunday, Oct. 2.

The Hawks are 2-4 overall this season and 1-1 in conference matches. The Hawks dropped a non-conference match to NCAA Division I Holy Cross on Sept. 24 by a 5-2 score before downing Assumption on Sept. 26, also by a 5-2 score.

Bentley is 0-3 this season and has not played a match since a 7-0 loss to Adelphi University on Sept. 18. The team has had three matches that have all been postponed leading up to the matchup with the Hawks.

The Ravens are 2-0 overall and 1-0 in conference matches in 2022-23. The Hawks and Ravens have been scheduled to play on two other occasions this season but those matches have been postponed. The team has not played a dual match since Sept. 15 which was a 7-0 win over American International.

The Dolphins are 3-2 this season and have three matches set this week. Prior to meeting the Hawks on Sunday, Oct. 2, Le Moyne is also hosting Franklin Pierce University on Wednesday, Sept. 28 and Assumption on Saturday, Oct. 1.

HAWKS NOTES
  • Freshman Irene Garbo (Assemini, Sardinia, Italy) and sophomore Olivia Parzick (Bow, N.H.) turned in a pair of wins at No. 1 doubles against Holy Cross and Assumption. The duo has won each of their last four doubles matches leading to the Bentley match.
  • Garbo also added wins at No. 1 singles in the previous two matches which improves her to 4-2 on the season.
  • In the match against the Greyhounds, sophomore Abigail Svor (Lewiston, Maine) and freshman Camila Heredia Osante (Oaxaca, Mexico) posted a sparkling 6-0 result at No. 3 doubles. Svor and Heredia Osante posted a 6-4 win against Holy Cross as well, improving to 4-1 as doubles partners.
  • Svor, Heredia Osante, and freshman Matilda Briegel (Tutzing, Bavaria, Germany) all posted singles wins on Monday. Briegel battled to a 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles to close out the day but Svor's 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 6 sealed the match for the Hawks.
SCOUTING BENTLEY
  • Last season, the Falcons posted a 6-11-1 record overall and a 4-6 mark in NE10 matches. Bentley grabbed conference wins over Assumption, Saint Michael's College, Saint Anselm, and American International College but fell one spot short of the NE10 postseason.
  • To open the 2022-23 season, Bentley has dropped each of its first three matches, all by 7-0 scores. The team opened the season against Post University before opening conference play against Le Moyne on Sept. 17. The team most recently fell to Adelphi on Sept. 18.
  • Matches against Assumption, NCAA Division I Stonehill College, and American International have all been postponed for the Falcons.
SCOUTING FRANKLIN PIERCE
  • The Ravens posted a 15-6 overall record in 2021-22, winning eight of their 10 NE10 matches. The reigning NE10 Champions posted convincing victories on the way to the league title last year, blanking New Haven and Southern New Hampshire before getting past Adelphi, 4-1.
  • The team qualified for the Third Round of the NCAA Championship last year, falling to No. 1 Barry by a 4-0 score on Tuesday, May 17.
  • Franklin Pierce is 2-0 this year, defeating NCAA Division III Colby-Sawyer by a 9-0 score on Wednesday, Sept. 7 before blanking American International, 7-0, last time out.
SCOUTING LE MOYNE
  • The Dolphins were 14-6 in 2021-22 with a perfect 10-0 record in regular season conference matches, earning them the top-seed entering the NE10 postseason.  Le Moyne was upset by the fourth-seed, Adelphi, in the Semifinals by a 4-0 score.
  • Le Moyne saw its season come to a close in the Second Round of the NCAA Championship last season. The team posted a 4-2 win over Saint Thomas Aquinas College on May 6 but fell to Wilmington (Del.) University, 4-0 the following day.
  • The Dolphins concluded play at the ITA East Regional on Sept. 25. Fiona Pepper and Stella Simeonova made it to the quarterfinals of the doubles competition but fell by 7-5, 6-2 scores.
ALL-TIME vs. BENTLEY, FRANKLIN PIERCE, LE MOYNE
  • Bentley leads the all-time series against Saint Anselm by a 30-16 margin. The Falcons have won 18 of the last 19 meetings dating back to Apr. 9, 2005. The Hawks grabbed a 5-2 win at Bentley on Oct. 12, 2018, marking their most recent win in the series.
  • Saint Anselm owns a 25-8 record against Franklin Pierce in the all-time series. The Hawks had won 14 matches in a row over the Ravens, but since the start of the 2019-20 season, Franklin Pierce has won four in a row in shutout fashion.
  • Le Moyne is 15-11 against Saint Anselm all-time. The Dolphins have won each of the last four meetings with the last Hawks win in the series coming on Sept. 25, 2016 in a 5-4 match from Syracuse, N.Y.
