PREVIEW: Men's soccer to meet Saint Thomas Aquinas, Bentley

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The regionally-ranked Saint Anselm College men's soccer team opens up three consecutive games on the road at Saint Thomas Aquinas College on Wednesday, Sept. 28.

Following the contest in Sparkill, N.Y., the Hawks will head to Bentley University on Saturday, Oct. 1 with the opening kickoff scheduled for 5 p.m.

The Hawks fell to Assumption University by a 3-1 score on Sept. 24. The Hawks drop to 6-2-0 overall and 3-2-0 in Northeast-10 Conference contests. Following the pair of matches this week, Saint Anselm will conclude its non-conference slate at nationally-ranked Franklin Pierce University on Tuesday, Oct. 4.

The Spartans dropped their most recent matchup to the College of Staten Island on Sept. 24 by a 2-0 score. The team is now 3-2-3 on the season and 0-2-1 in East Coast Conference play. Following the match with the Hawks, Saint Thomas Aquinas hosts Daemen University on Saturday, Oct. 1.

The Falcons fell to Le Moyne College by a 3-1 score on Sept. 24 which puts them at 2-4-2 overall and 1-2-0 in NE10 matches. Prior to hosting the Hawks, the Falcons will meet Adelphi University on Wednesday, Sept. 28.

HAWKS NOTES
  • Senior Jackson Bukunt (Upton, Mass.) netted his team-leading fourth goal of the season against Assumption. The senior also netted a goal in the win over Saint Rose and enters play on Wednesday with a tally in consecutive matches.
  • Graduate student Zach Elliot (Manchester, N.H.) ranks second on the squad with three goals and is second in points with seven, trailing only Bukunt who has nine.
  • Seniors Taylor Silverstein (Concord, N.H.) and Kyle White (Danvers, Mass.) have found the back of the net twice apiece.
  • Saint Anselm has scored 13 goals this season while allowing just nine.
  • Senior Brian Underhill (Westford, Mass.) has started in all eight games for the Hawks this season. He has a 1.19 goals-against average and a 0.850 save percentage. Underhill's 51 saves this season are the most in the NE10 while his save percentage is second.
  • Saint Anselm is ranked ninth in the latest edition of the United Soccer Coaches East Region Poll.
SCOUTING SAINT THOMAS AQUINAS
  • Jorge Umana leads the Spartans with eight goals. He has added one assist, bringing his total points to 17, which is also a team-high. Umana is tied for the ECC lead in points while leading in goals.
  • Kevon Evans follows closely with six goals and is tied for a team-high with three helpers. His 15 points is good for second on team.
  • The Spartans have scored 24 goals this season which is the most in the ECC. Saint Thomas Aquinas has scored three or more goals in five of its eight games this season.
  • Joshua Heber is tied for the team lead with three starts. He owns a 2-1-1 record this season with a 2.09 goals-against average and 0.667 save percentage. Tabor McDaniels and Felix Davies have drawn two and three starts each, respectively. McDaniels has a 1.52 goals-against average and a 0.765 save percentage compared to a 3.60 goals against and a 0.571 save percentage for Davies.
SCOUTING BENTLEY
  • Lukas Drahos and Johann Fraser are tied for the Bentley lead with three goals each this season. Drahos is the team leader with seven points, adding one assist to his three tallies.
  • Evan Levine, Karim Abultaif, and Patrick McMahon are tied for the team lead with two assists apiece. Levine is tied with Fraser for second on the squad with six points.
  • Bentley has found the back of the net 14 times this season while they have conceded 15 goals.
  • Joe Griffin has started six of eight games for the Falcons. Griffin is 1-1-0 with a 1.14 goals-against average and a 0.826 save percentage. Eduardo Bomfim has appeared in seven games with two starts. He is 1-3-2 on the season and holds a 0.711 save percentage with a 2.44 goals-against average.
ALL-TIME vs. SAINT THOMAS AQUINAS, BENTLEY
  • The Hawks and Spartans will be meeting for the ninth time on Wednesday. Saint Thomas Aquinas is 5-2-1 against the Hawks.
  • Saint Anselm has won each of the last two meetings against the Spartans including last season's match on Oct. 12. Saint Anselm grabbed a 2-1 win in Sparkill, N.Y.
  • This will be the 54th meeting all-time between the Hawks and the Falcons. Bentley holds a slight edge at 25-22-6 in the series.
  • The last meeting came on Sept. 18, 2021 from Melucci Field and went the Hawks way by a 3-1 score, snapping a three-match winless streak for Saint Anselm.
