Davis matches assist record in win for No. 6 field hockey

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Junior Maddie Davis (Exeter, N.H.) matched a program record with four assists as the nationally-ranked Saint Anselm College field hockey team picked up an 8-0 victory over Saint Michael's College on Saturday.

No. 6-ranked Saint Anselm, who saw eight goal scorers in the victory, improves to 1-3 following the non-league affair while Saint Michael's drops to 0-4 on the season. The Hawks, who also shattered the program record for assist in a game (nine), head next to Pace University on Saturday, Sept. 24.

The Hawks enjoyed a comfortable 28-to-5 edge in shots taken, and as a team, generated 25 points of offense, trailing the all-time record of 26 set against New Haven on Oct. 7, 2017.

Senior Avery Tucker (Westbrook, Maine) and junior Shannon Walsh (Chelmsford, Mas.) logged markers off Davis assists, upping the Hawks lead to 2-0, scoring both goals within 1:29 near the midpoint of the opening quarter to get the scoring started.

Freshman Millie Forster (Cholmondeley, Cheshire, England) picked up her first collegiate goal in the game's 26th minute, creating a 3-0 margin off a right-to-left cross by senior Maggie Malloy (Canton, Mass.). Less than three minutes later, junior Abbey Bevens (Pelham, N.H.) reeled in a pass from graduate student Jackie Gaumer (Thornton, N.H.) and sent it home for the fourth goal.

The Hawks explode for four goals in the fourth quarter as sophomore Amanda Lewandowski (Franklin, Mass.) got the stretch going with her second of the season, set up by Davis' third assist of the afternoon.

Sophomore Grace Michael (Hampton Falls, N.H.), freshman Reese Levansavich (Auburn, Mass.) and freshman Kaitlyn West (Nashua, N.H.) rounded out the scoring as all three recorded the first of their collegiate careers.

Freshmen Maggie Burchill (Braintree, Mass.) and Lili Stone (Scarborough, Maine) picked up helpers in the fourth quarter, logging their first collegiate points in the victory.

Junior Mackenzie McConnell (Concord Township, Maine) made two saves in the victory while a pair of Purple Knights backstops combined to make 11 saves. Mia Gardner also had a defensive save in the losing effort.
