MANCHESTER, N.H. – Junior goalkeeper Mackenzie McConnell (Concord Township, Maine) made 11 saves for the Saint Anselm College field hockey team in a 2-0 loss to East Stroudsburg on Saturday.
Saint Anselm, ranked sixth in NCAA Division II, falls to 0-3 on the year while East Stroudsburg, ranked third in the country, remains without a loss in three matches. The Hawks host Saint Michael's on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 1 p.m.
McConnell was tested throughout the game, making five stops in the first half and six in the second half. East Stroudsburg fired 15 shots while Saint Anselm's lone shot came in the fourth quarter on a redirect attempt that went wide of the cage.
Morgan Mesenbrink put the Warriors ahead at the 33-minute mark, tipping home a left-to-right feed from Lia Parker and evading the lunge of McConnell. East Stroudsburg added insurance in the game's 42nd minute as Hanna Lewis chased down her own miss, flicking home a McConnell rejection for the tally.
Amy Supey picked up the shutout in goal and did not face a shot on net for East Stroudsburg, who also enjoyed a 15-to-3 edge in penalty corners.
