PREVIEW: Women's soccer to battle three East Region opponents to close non-conference slate

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's soccer team welcomes Wilmington (Del.) and Goldey-Beacom to Melucci Field on Wednesday, Aug. 31 and Friday, Sept. 2.

After hosting the Wildcats and Lightning, the Hawks make their first road trip of the season to Daemen (N.Y.) in their non-conference finale on Monday, Sept. 5.

The Hawks opened the season with a 2-0 win over Holy Family on Aug. 26 from Grappone Stadium. Saint Anselm has now won its season opening match for two consecutive seasons. After making the trip to Daemen, the Hawks open the Northeast-10 Conference slate at Pace University on Saturday, Sept. 10.

Wilmington opened its season with a 1-1 tie against Bentley before falling to Adelphi by a 5-1 margin. The Wildcats are making their first road trip of the season when they come to the Hilltop and then will meet Mercy on Saturday, Sept. 3.

Goldey-Beacom posted a 5-0 season opening win over Saint Thomas Aquinas before falling by a 2-1 score at Bloomsburg, pushing their opening week record to 1-1-0. The team has a quick turnaround after battling the Hawks as they head to Franklin Pierce on Sunday, Sept. 4.

Daemen suffered a 2-1 loss to open its season to the No. 2 ranked team nationally, Saint Rose, and then played to a scoreless draw against Le Moyne. The squad plays its first game away from home on Saturday, Sept. 3 against Bentley before returning home to host the Hawks on Monday, Sept. 5.

HAWKS NOTES
  • Sophomore Josie Pecor (Williston, Vt.) netted a pair of second half goals which pushed the Hawks to their 2-0 season opening win.
  • For the sophomore forward, that marks the first multi-goal game and the first game-winning goal of her collegaite career.
  • Senior Megan Nguyen (Dudley, Mass.) and freshman Kayli Porter (Wakefield, Mass.) registered one assist each in the season opening win, marking the first assists of each student-athlete's career.
  • Freshman Emma Hudson (Kingston, Mass.) registered the shutout victory in her collegiate debut, making four saves in the match. After stopping the lone shot on goal in the opening 45, Hudson kept the Tigers off the board with three saves in the second half.
  • Freshman Zarina Pinto (Groveland, Mass.) nearly got the first goal of the season for the Hawks but her shot from just outside the 18-yard box bounced off the crossbar and stayed out of the net.
  • Senior Kathryn White (Georgetown, Mass.) and Pecor tied for a team-high with three shots each against the Tigers.
SCOUTING WILMINGTON (DEL.)
  • Emilie Larsen is responsible for both goals scored for the Wildcats. Larsen tied the match against Bentley with a goal in the 83rd minute, a match that ended in a 1-1 draw, while she opened the scoring at Adelphi. However, the Wildcats dropped that match to the Panthers by a 5-1 score.
  • Larsen leads the team with five shots and is tied for second with two shots on goal. Julia Yuhase leads the Wildcats with three shots on target.
  • Emily Navarrete recorded an assist on Larsen's game-tying goal against Bentley, marking her first of the season and fourth of her collegiate career.
  • Mio Nakajima has made eight saves in the goal for the Wildcats. She has drawn both starts for Wilmington and holds a 3.00 goals-against average and a 0.571 save percentage.
SCOUTING GOLDEY-BEACOM
  • Angela Lee leads the Lightning with five points on two goals and one assist. Her two goals are tied for the team lead. She is one of four student-athletes to register an assist through the team's opening two matches.
  • Alex Lowry has netted a pair of goals for Goldey-Beacom, putting her in a tie for the top spot on the team. Lowry has attempted a team-high eight shots with five of them going on target.
  • Alyssa Ruggeri has assisted on two markers and has scored one goal for four points, putting her in a tie for second on the team with Lowry in points.
  • Nikki Cashin has started both contests in the goal for Goldey-Beacom. Cashin owns a 1.00 goals-against average and a 0.857 save percentage, having stopped 12 shots on goal.
SCOUTING DAEMEN (N.Y.)
  • Brooke Amato has netted the lone goal for the Wildcats on the season at the time of writing. She has attempted five shots, all of which have been on goal.
  • Grace Stranahan assisted on the Amato goal, which tied the match against Saint Rose at one in the 28th minute.
  • Alyssa Diaz leads the Wildcats with six shot attempts and is tied with Amato for the team-lead with five shots on goal.
  • Tori DeLappi has started both matches in the goal for Daemen. She has a 1.00 goals-against average and a 0.818 save percentage, having totaled nine saves this season.
ALL-TIME vs. WILMINGTON (DEL.), GOLDEY-BEACOM, DAEMEN (N.Y.)
  • This will be the first meeting all-time between Saint Anselm and Wilmington (Del.).
  • The only match between the Hawks and Lightning came at Goldey-Beacom on Sept. 5, 2019 and ended in a scoreless tie.
  • Saint Anselm and Daemen met for the first time on Sept. 15, 2021 from Melucci Field with the Hawks taking that meeting by a 3-1 score.
