Pecor nets two as women's soccer grabs season-opening win over Holy Family

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Sophomore Josie Pecor (Williston, Vt.) netted a pair of second half goals for the Saint Anselm College women's soccer team who downed Holy Family University by a 2-0 score on Friday night from Grappone Stadium.

Saint Anselm opens its season with a win for the second consecutive season. The Hawks are back in action on Wednesday, Aug. 31 when they welcome Wilmington (Del.) to the Hilltop for a 3 p.m. non-conference fixture.

For Pecor, the two-goal effort marks the first multi-goal game of her collegiate career. It is also her second and third career goals.

Freshman Kayli Porter (Wakefield, Mass.) and senior Megan Nguyen (Dudley, Mass.) recorded one assist each for the Hawks. That is the first career assist for each student-athlete.

Freshman Emma Hudson (Kingston, Mass.) posted a four-save shutout in her collegiate debut in the goal for Saint Anselm. The freshman goalkeeper stopped three-second half shots on goal on her way to the win.

The best chance for either side in the first half came when freshman Zarina Pinto (Groveland, Mass.) found free space at the top of the box in the 37th minute. She fired a left-footed shot that bounced off the crossbar and stayed out of the goal.

Saint Anselm jumped on the attack early in the second half and were rewarded for their efforts. Senior Kathryn White (Georgetown, Mass.) collected a pass inside the 18-yard box and sent a shot on goal that Brianna Pudlo, the Tigers goalkeeper, turned aside in the 55th minute.

Less than two minutes later, Pecor cashed in on a feed from Porter to net the Hawks first goal of the 2022 season. The sophomore sent a left-footed strike into the bottom right corner of the goal to open the scoring.

Saint Anselm tacked on its second goal of the game after Nguyen forced a turnover in the midfield to get the play started. She would drive forward up the left side of the field and find a crashing Pecor who buried her second of the match in the 86th minute.

The Hawks defense would not allow a shot for the remainder of the contest, posting a 2-0 season opening win.

Joining Hudson, Porter, and Pinto in making their collegiate debuts were freshmen Gabrielle Chisholm (Danvers, Mass.), Addie Birkett (East Greenwich, R.I.), Madison DiNapoli (North Reading, Mass.), and Nina Cuccovia (East Longmeadow, Mass.).
