Saint Anselm has won four games in a row, improving to 8-4 overall on the season and to 6-3 within Northeast-10 Conference play. The Hawks are ranked 15th in NCAA Division II, according to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association's National Coaches' Poll.
Assumption has won two games in a row, moving to 4-8 on the season with a 3-6 mark against NE10 opponents. Prior to its most recent victories against Saint Rose (4/16) and American International (4/23), the Greyhounds had lost five in a row.
A win for Saint Anselm at 7 p.m. on Tuesday would give the Hawks a 7-3 record in NE10 play, tying with Pace for third in the NE10. The Hawks have locked down a home playoff game, either as the third or fourth seed, as Saint Anselm holds tiebreaker advantages over Pace, Southern New Hampshire and Bentley.
SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
- Saint Anselm has ranked first in the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association's coaches' poll all season, with the exception of the Apr. 11 poll which saw the Hawks fall to second. Since that poll, however, the Hawks have returned to the top of the New England poll in each of the last two weeks.
- Junior Jack Robinson (Wilbraham, Mass.) leads Saint Anselm (and ranks ninth in NCAA Division II) with 2.5 assists per game, on average. His 2.58 goals per game also ranks within the top 10 in the NE10, trailing the league leader, teammate Sean Tomaszewski (Arlington, Mass.) with an average of 3.17 per tilt.
- Robinson needs just eight more points to reach 100 for his career. To date, he has logged 40 goals with 52 assists for 92 points (40-52=92) in 30 career contests on the Hilltop.
- Tomaszewski needs just two goals on Tuesday at Assumption tor each 40 on the season. Only five student-athletes have previously reached that threshold in team history.
- Netminder CJ Hart (Reading, Mass.) has a 9.71 goals-against average, ranking fourth in the NE10, and his 10.25 saves per game ranks fifth in the league. He owns a .547 save percentage, the seventh-finest figure among NE10 backstops.
- Hart's 8.19 goals-against average is the fourth-best rate among active NCAA Division II netminders. In his Saint Anselm career, Hart has registered a .579 save percentage in 43 career games for the Hawks, logging a 25-8 overall record.
- Junior Jack Andrews (Cumberland, R.I.) is just seven points away from setting a single-season record for point scoring – in 12 games to date, he has posted 31 goals and eight assists for 39 points (31-8=39) and can pass his 2021 total of 45 points, accomplished in 15 games.
- The Hawks remain fourth in NCAA Division II as a team with a .730 opponent clear percentage. As a team, Saint Anselm has produced the league's best scoring offense (15.17) and commits the fewest turnovers per game (14.83).
SCOUTING ASSUMPTION
- Only two upperclassmen (two juniors) have logged a point of offense for a young Greyhounds team – the rest of the team's scoring has been provided by freshman and sophomores.
- Freshman Cameron Theriault has scored 18 goals with nine assists for 27 points (18-9=27), racking up 21 ground balls and three man-up goals. Ryan Healey, a sophomore, has cashed in with a team-best 20 goals and five assists for 25 points (20-5=25).
- Sophomore Jack Galvin has 30 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers on defense for Assumption. Aidan Boyle, a classmate, has a team-best 12 caused turnovers and 16 ground balls.
- Freshman Nick Polymeros has won 62 of his 135 face-offs for Assumption – he is the brother of Christina Polymeros (Natick, Mass.), a member of the Saint Anselm women's lacrosse program. Polymerous is joined at the "X" by Dylan Chapel (68-for-124).
- Colin Malone has logged 11 starts for Assumption, producing a .553 save percentage and a 3-5 record in goal for the Greyhounds.
ALL-TIME vs. ASSUMPTION
- Saint Anselm holds a 21-7 lead in the all-time series with the Greyhounds.
- The Hawks overwhelmed the Greyhounds in the NE10 Quarterfinals last season, winning by a 20-goal margin on May 1, 25-5.
- The 25 goals by Saint Anselm in last season's playoffs opener are the most it has ever scored in a postseason contest, breaking the previous team record of 19 goals established against Saint Rose in the 2018 NE10 playoffs.
- The Hawks have won six in a row and eight of the last nine over Assumption.
