After a three-game losing skid in late March, the No. 16-ranked Hawks (7-4, 5-3 NE10) have won four of their last five games to start the month of April with their one loss coming in overtime. Wednesday's game against Pace is the regular-season finale at Grappone Stadium.
No. 9 Pace brings a 10-2 overall record into play and is coming off a 16-15 overtime victory at Bentley, a game which saw the Setters score three goals in the game's final 49 seconds to tie the game. Pace picked up the overtime winner with 2:50 to go in extra time, stunning the Falcons in Waltham, Mass.
Fans are reminded that Grappone Stadium is a pet-free facility. Alcoholic beverages and tobacco products are also not permitted within the facility.
SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
- The Hawks rank third in all of NCAA Division II with just 14.73 turnovers per game, trailing the national leader from Westminster (Utah) by just shy of three miscues, on average. Saint Anselm limits opponents on clearances to just a 72.8% success rate, the fourth-finest figure in the nation.
- Junior Jack Robinson (Wilbraham, Mass.) leads the NE10 with 2.64 assists per game, ranking eighth among qualifying NCAA Division II student-athletes. He has posted a 12-game point-scoring streak that dates back to last season's NCAA postseason and recently moved into the top-10 list with 51 career assists, the eighth-most in team history.
- Graduate student Sean Tomaszewski (Arlington, Mass.) leads the NE10 in goals per game (3.18) and is 16th nationally in that figure. He has scored at least once in all of the 11 games this season and has produced at least two points of offense in all but one of those games, all starts for Saint Anselm.
- Tomaszewski is just two points away from reaching 100 for his career – he would become the 21st in team history to reach that milestone. Robinson is only 10 points away, entering the game against Pace with 90 points (39-51=90) in his career.
- Senior netminder CJ Hart (Reading, Mass.) has posted 10.36 saves per game for the Hawks, conceding just 9.68 goals per game for Saint Anselm across 11 games. He is the reigning Ensign C Markland Kelly Jr. Outstanding National Goalkeeper of the Year in NCAA Division II, issued by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association.
- Junior midfielder Jack Andrews (Cumberland, R.I.) is riding a 17-game point streak, beginning on Apr. 24, 2021 at Southern New Hampshire. He ranks third on the team this season with 26 goals and eight assists for 34 points (26-8=34), tying for the team lead with four man-up goals on the year.
- Sophomore Noah Larsen (Northborough, Mass.) has logged at least one point in each of his 22 career games on the Hilltop, scoring 28 goals with 22 assists for 50 points (28-22=50) in that span. Since returning to the field earlier this season, he has scored nine goals with six assists for 15 points (9-6=15).
- Junior Ryan Slattery (North Andover, Mass.) is just three caused turnovers away from reaching 50 in his career – only six student-athletes in history can lay that claim.
SCOUTING PACE
- The Setters rank in the top-10 in NCAA Division II in numerous statistics, including caused turnovers per game (13.33), scoring margin (+7.5), points per game (25.5), assists per game (10.00), scoring defense (8.0), scoring offense (15.5), winning percentage (83.3%) and assists (120).
- Netminder Louis Ragusa has stood tall in net for Pace, posting the nation's fifth-finest save percentage (61.1%) and its eighth-best goals-against average (8.13). He has contributed the NE10's fifth-most saves per game (10.58).
- Pace has four of the NE10's top-10 leaders in assists per game, headlined by Kyle Casey and his 2.08 helpers per game. He leads the team with 36 goals and 24 assists for 60 points (36-24=60), matching Jake Veres for the team lead in goal scoring.
- Tim Cairo is the third member of the Pace lineup with at least 45 points of offense, chipping in with 28 goals and 19 assists for 47 points (28-19=47). He has cashed in with five man-up goals, leading the Setters in that statistic.
- Griffin Shiland has been a force on defense for Pace, reeling in 53 ground balls and causing a team-best 20 turnovers.
ALL-TIME vs. PACE
- The Setters are 16-9 against Saint Anselm in team history but the Hawks have won two of the last three meetings.
- The Hawks came up with a 12-10 victory over No. 14-ranked Pace in the 2021 NE10 Semifinals at Grappone Stadium. In doing so, Saint Anselm, ranked No. 9 in NCAA Division II, set a program record with its 12 victory of the year.
- Down by as many as three goals in the third quarter, the Hawks scored eight of the game's final 11 markers to capture the thrilling win last year over Pace. With the score locked in at nine with 8:17 to go in regulation time, Matt Ward '21, Ryan Richards '21 and Griffin Shoemaker '21 scored in succession to create a 12-9 lead with 39 seconds left in regulation time.
