MANCHESTER, N.H. – The nationally-ranked Saint Anselm College men's lacrosse team came away with a 20-7 victory over visiting Saint Michael's College on Saturday at Grappone Stadium. The game was also Senior Day for the soon-to-be Hawks graduates, who were honored in a pre-game ceremony.
The No. 17-ranked Hawks have now won three in a row, upping the Saint Anselm record to 7-4 overall and to 5-3 against Northeast-10 Conference opponents. Saint Michael's dips to 2-11 overall on the year with one NE10 victory in eight attempts.
Junior Jack Robinson (Wilbraham, Mass.) logged a career-high nine points in the victory, scoring three goals with six assists for nine points (3-6=9). With six helpers on the day, Robinson becomes just the second student-athlete in team history to reach that many assists in one game twice – Brian O'Leary '01 had six-plus assists on six occasions.
Robinson ended the game with 51 career assists and is one of just eight student-athletes in team history with at least 50 to his credit in a career at Saint Anselm.
Graduate student Sean Tomaszewski (Arlington, Mass.) scored six goals on the day, reaching a single-game high in his career on the Hilltop, as Saint Anselm enjoyed a 72-41 advantage in shot attempts. Tomaszewski set a single-season high with 43 points of offense via 35 goals and eight assists, eclipsing his previous high of 38 points (23-15=38) as a sophomore in 2019.
Freshman Joe Lombardi (Holliston, Mass.) scored two goals with an assist and senior Jack Wells (Melrose, Mass.) produced a goal with two helpers. Nine others recorded at least one point of offense for Saint Anselm.
The tandem of graduate student Will Palmer (Concord, Mass.) and junior Ryan Slattery (North Andover, Mass.) combined to cause four turnovers (two apiece) on defense.
Ahead by a 5-1 advantage, Saint Anselm established a 9-2 lead heading into halftime as Robinson tucked home his first goal of the game with just three seconds left on the first-half clock. The Hawks kept the Purple Knights to just 17 shot attempts in the first 30 minutes of game play as senior netminder CJ Hart (Reading, Mass.) had five of his eight saves on the day in the opening two quarters.
Saint Michael's struck for four of the game's five goals between the third and fourth quarters, halving the Hawks advantage at 14-7 with 13:56 to go before the Hawks put the game away with six in a row to end the contest.
Hart improves to 24-8 in his Saint Anselm career in goal, playing the first three quarters before yielding to senior Lance Pfeninger-Racine (Dartmouth, Mass.) to start the fourth. A pair of Saint Michael's netminders allowed 20 goals on 39 shots, totaling 19 saves in the contest.
Saint Anselm has a tough test coming up, hosting Pace on Wednesday, Apr. 20 at 4 p.m. The hawks wrap up the NE10 calendar next Tuesday, Apr. 26 at Assumption under the lights.
