The Hawks have won two games in a row, doing so in convincing fashion each time. Saint Anselm posted a 22-11 road victory at Saint Rose on Saturday, Apr. 9 before taking on American International on Tuesday, securing a 19-3 victory in Springfield.
Saint Michael's picked up its second victory of the season on Tuesday, taking down Franklin Pierce by a 10-4 margin at home. The team's first win came against No. 19 Lake Erie on Mar. 9 – the squad lost seven games in a row between the two victories.
Saint Anselm will honor its seniors with a pre-game ceremony on Saturday as part of the Senior Day festivities. The pre-game tribute will begin at 11:35 p.m.
SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
- Saint Anselm ranks sixth nationally by limiting opponents to just a 73.4% success rate on clears. The Hawks also rank seventh, committing just 15.4 miscues per game to also rank third in the NE10 in that metric.
- Junior Jack Robinson (Wilbraham, Mass.) logged three goals with four assists for seven points (3-4=7) in Tuesday's big victory at American International. Robinson had a hand in four of his team's 11 consecutive goals to begin the game.
- Robinson leads the NE10 in assists per game (2.3) and ranks fifth in points per game (3.8).
- Robinson was helped by sophomore Chase Lilly (Trumbull, Conn.), who reached a career-high mark with four points against the Yellow Jackets, scoring three goals with an assist (3-1=4). Graduate student Sean Tomaszewski (Arlington, Mass.) had two goals and two assists, giving him 3.7 points per game (seventh in the NE10).
- Senior Matt Rawding (Beverly, Mass.) put home a goal and two assists (1-2=3) last time out as 14 student-athletes from Saint Anselm logged at least one assist versus the Yellow Jackets. The defense was bolstered by three caused turnovers from junior Ryan Slattery (North Andover, Mass.).
- Senior CJ Hart (Reading, Mass.) made seven saves on eight shots in the win at AIC, earning the victory in net for Saint Anselm. Classmate Lance Pfeninger-Racine (Dartmouth, Mass.) stopped a career-high five shots in relief before sophomore Ian Boisvert (Reading, Mass.) played the final six-plus minutes, making his collegiate debut.
- The Hawks fired 44 shots in the opening half, stymieing the host Yellow Jackets on offense and limiting them to just 12 shot attempts in the first 30 minutes. Saint Anselm held leads of 11-0, 14-1, 17-2 and ended the game with a 19-3 advantage.
SCOUTING SAINT MICHAEL'S
- Saint Michael's allowed a season-low in goals last time out against Franklin Pierce, conceding the fewest goals at home since the 2014 season. The Purple Knights also reeled in a season-high 41 ground balls.
- Saint Michael's leads the NE10 in several statistical categories, including man-up offense (44.2%), saves (198) and saves per game (16.5).
- On the season, opponents are winning 63% of their face-offs against Saint Michael's.
- Max Katavolos leads the way with 27 goals and 11 assists for 38 points (27-11=38), reeling in 26 ground balls and scoring a team-best six man-up goals for the Purple Knights
- Kyle Hirshom ranks second on the team with 25 points of offense, handing out 14 assists to lead the team.
- Spencer Scardino has started all 12 games for Saint Michael's, posting a 12.84 goals-against average alongside of a 56.7% save percentage.
ALL-TIME vs. SAINT MICHAEL'S
- Against the Purple Knights, the Hawks are 14-18 in the all-time series.
- Saint Anselm is currently on a six-game winning streak against Saint Michael's, which is also the longest winning streak between the two programs. In the last 10 matches, Saint Anselm holds the 7-3 advantage.
- Since 2002, the Hawks have averaged 9.42 goals per game against its opponents up north in Vermont. Saint Anselm is also 9-2 on home turf against the Purple Knights in the past 19 years.
- Saint Anselm and Saint Michael's have also seen each other on the big stage, battling one another in the NE10 Tournament. The series is tied at 2-2 when in that situation. The last time the Hawks and Purple Knights saw each other in the NE10 Tournament was in the 2012 Quarterfinals, falling 8-4.
- Back in 2009, the Hawks rallied from a 9-7 halftime deficit to upset No. 4 seeded Saint Michael's by a 14-13 final, advancing the Hawks to the semifinals against Le Moyne.
