PREVIEW: No. 17 men's lacrosse battles American Int'l on Tuesday

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The No. 17 Saint Anselm College men's lacrosse team heads to American International College for a Northeast-10 Conference battle with the Yellow jackets, scheduled for a 7 p.m. opening faceoff on Tuesday.

The Hawks cruised to a 22-11 win over Saint Rose on Apr. 9, improving to 5-4 on the season and 3-3 in NE10 play. From the end of the second quarter through the third quarter, Saint Anselm had registered 11 consecutive goals after the Golden Knights had tied the score at five. After battling the Yellow Jackets, Saint Anselm welcomes Saint Michael's College to the Hilltop for a 12 p.m. Senior Day matchup with the Purple Knights on Saturday, Apr. 16.

The Yellow Jackets fell to Southern New Hampshire University by a 21-4 score on Apr. 9, dropping to 1-10 on the season and 0-6 in conference play. After hosting the Hawks, American International will head to Le Moyne College on Friday, Apr. 15 for their final road contest of the season before hosting two games to close the regular season.

SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
  • Graduate student Sean Tomaszewski (Arlington, Mass.) and junior Jack Andrews (Cumberland, R.I.) turned in five goal, one assist performances to lead the Hawks offense.
  • Saint Anselm netted five man-up goals in the contest which is the most in a game since Mar. 10, 2018, a win over Post University. The Hawks also scored a season-high in goals and that total is the second-most goals in a road game in program history.
  • Junior AJ Caprio (Scituate, Mass.) was named the NE10 Defensive Player of the Week after going 20-for-27 in face-offs against Saint Rose. He also collected 15 ground balls which was a game high.
  • Tomaszewski ranks fifth in the conference and leads the Hawks with 27 goals scored this season. He has added six assists for a team-high 33 points.
  • Andrews has scored 24 goals which is good for second on the team and has seven assists, putting him in a tie for second with 31 points.
  • Joining Andrews is junior Jack Robinson (Wilbraham, Mass.) who has scored 12 goals and recorded a team-high 19 helpers for 31 points.
  • Sophomore Nick Larsen (Northborough, Mass.) and senior Jack Wells (Melrose, Mass.) have scored double digit goals for the Hawks this season. Larsen is the only other Saint Anselm student-athlete with double digit assists through nine games.
  • Senior CJ Hart (Reading, Mass.) grabbed his fifth won of the season against Saint Rose. He has stopped 100 shots on goal, good for a .541 save percentage and a 10.30 goals-against average. After making 11 or more saves in five consecutive games, Hart has posted 14 saves in the last two games combined including eight against the Golden Knights.
SCOUTING AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL
  • Rusty Stone leads the Yellow Jackets offense with 20 goals. He is tied for a team-high five assists which puts him at 25 points on the season. Stone netted three goals in the loss to Southern New Hampshire.
  • In the last three games, Stone has scored 10 goals and has gone for at least three in each one. Against Saint Rose on Apr. 2, Stone netted a season-high four goals.
  • Hunter Terlik and Jason Vickery are tied for second on the team with 11 points each. Terlik has found the back of the cage seven times and assisted on four others while Vickery has scored six times and assisted on five.
  • Stone, Vickery, and Sal Amaral have registered five assists each this season, tying them for the team lead.
  • Tyler Shrewsbury has taken 117 face-offs this season for the Yellow Jackets. Shrewsbury has won 55 of them and collected a team high 47 ground balls.
  • Nick Mee and Troy Schweitzer have split time in the cage for American International. Mee has drawn six starts and has a .533 save percentage and a 16.01 goals-against average while Schweitzer has a .492 save percentage and a 12.62 goals against.
ALL-TIME vs. AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL
  • This will be the 27th meeting between the Hawks and Yellow Jackets all-time. Saint Anselm is 23-3 against American International in the series.
  • The programs last met on Apr. 21, 2021, resulting in a 17-1 win for the Hawks from Springfield, Mass.
  • In each of the last five meetings between the programs, Saint Anselm has posted a double digit margin of victory. Saint Anselm is riding a 22-game winning streak over American International.
  • The Hawks win on Apr. 26, 1997 snapped a three-game win streak for the Yellow Jackets and started the current streak.
