The No. 11-ranked team in NCAA Division II, the Hawks fell to 3-1 on the year with a narrow 7-5 loss to the reigning national champions, Le Moyne, on Saturday. Saint Anselm saw a 19-game winning streak in the regular season come to an end in what was a defensive battle between the Dolphins and Hawks.
Adelphi is undefeated on the season, bringing a 4-0 record into play on Saturday. The Panthers are fresh off back-to-back 10-7 victories, wins that were logged against NCAA Division III Connecticut College and Southern New Hampshire, and have allowed no more than seven goals in a game all season.
Individuals are encouraged (but not required) to wear face coverings at outdoor athletics contests at Adelphi and visitors should self-screen for symptoms and/or exposure prior to arrival at the site of competition.
SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
- Against No. 1 Le Moyne, Saint Anselm finished the game with the decisive edge in shots taken (52-to-31) and won the ground ball battle (29-to-27), but the Dolphins placed more shots on net (22-to-19) and scored three extra-man goals, limiting the Hawks to zero strikes on four extra-man opportunities.
- Both netminders stood tall in the game against Le Moyne, with Saint Anselm's CJ Hart (Reading, Mass.) making 15 saves and Le Moyne's Frank Delia halting 14-of-19 shots on frame. Hart earned Goalkeeper of the Week for the Hawks with his strong effort.
- Junior Jack Andrews (Cumberland, R.I.), junior Craig Yannone (Lynnfield, Mass.) and senior Kyle Fisher (Nashua, N.H.) led the way with four ground balls against Le Moyne – the latter caused three turnovers, leading Saint Anselm on defense. Junior Andrew Bonavita (Longmeadow, Mass.) reached 50 career ground balls, doing so in only 22 career games.
- Saint Anselm ranks third in the nation in opponent clear percentage (70.4%), sixth in scoring defense (7.50), seventh in scoring margin (6.50) and ninth in caused turnovers per game (11.75). The Hawks are 16th in the nation in ground balls per game (38.00).
- Junior Jack Robinson (Wilbraham, Mass.) is fifth in NCAA Division II in assists per game (3.00) and Hart owns the nation's fifth-finest goals-against average (6.91). His save percentage (0.619) is seventh in the country and fourth in the NE10.
- Saint Anselm has an active 10-game winning streak in true road games (minus neutral-site contests). The team's last loss at an opponent's home venue came in the NE10 title game in 2019 as the Hawks fell to former NE10-member Merrimack at Warrior Stadium.
- The Hawks have won 45 of their last 66 games since the start of the 2017 season.
SCOUTING ADELPHI
- Adelphi is one of five unbeaten teams in NCAA Division II, joining Franklin Pierce and Pace among the NE10 ranks with zero losses. The Panthers are second national in opponent clear percentage (0.687), third in scoring defense (6.50) and fifth in scoring margin (7.25).
- Against Southern New Hampshire, the Panthers overcame a 4-2 deficit at halftime to capture a 10-7 win versus the Penmen. Kyle Steinbach scored three goals and an assist for four points (3-1=4), leading the way with a team-leading 11 shots.
- Adelphi's Dylan Renner made 14 saves on 21 shots in goal for the Panthers, standing tall for the victory with a career-high in stops. Sean McGovern earned NE10 Defensive Player of the Week honors on Monday, reeling in four ground balls, causing three turnovers and scoring a man-up goal versus the Penmen.
- Steinbach leads the team with eight goals and three assists for 11 points (8-3=11). Jason Rebaudo is second on the squad in point scoring, tallying six goals and two assists (6-2=8) and three student-athletes have seven points for Adelphi.
- Edward Peristein is 43-for-73 (0.589) at the face-off "X", collecting a team-best 29 ground balls. McGovern has caused 12 turnovers and picked up 16 loose balls.
