PREVIEW: Women's ice hockey heads to Post for final road trip of the season

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team makes its final road trip of the 2021-22 season on Friday, Feb. 4 and Saturday, Feb. 5 at Post University.

The Hawks were slated to play a home-and-home series with Franklin Pierce University on Jan. 28 and Jan. 29 but the Saturday contest was postponed due to inclement weather. Friday's game went on as scheduled, resulting in a 3-2 overtime win for the Ravens. Saint Anselm is now 8-11-3 overall and 5-5-3 in New England Women's Hockey Alliance play. The Hawks are slated to host Sacred Heart University on Friday, Feb. 18 and Saturday, Feb. 19 before concluding the regular season the following weekend against Saint Michael's College.

The Eagles dropped both of their weekend contests with Sacred Heart University on Jan. 28 and Jan. 29 by 4-1 and 3-2 scores. The team falls to 5-18-0 on the season with a 2-10-0 mark in NEWHA play. The team was scheduled to play Wesleyan University on Feb. 1 but that contest was postponed. After hosting the Hawks, the Eagles head to Franklin Pierce for a weekend set with the Ravens on Friday, Feb. 11 and Saturday, Feb. 12.

Fans attending the contests at the Sports Center of Connecticut are expected to familiarize themselves with the Post University spectator policy.

SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
  • Junior Margaret Sullivan (Burlington, Mass.) opened the scoring against Franklin Pierce before the Ravens tallied back-to-back goals. Freshman Tyra Turner (Andover, Minn.) knotted the score at two late in the second period and after a scoreless third period, the teams headed to overtime. The Ravens got the game-winner just 1:20 into the five-minute extra frame.
  • Senior Erin Meyers (St. Paul, Minn.) leads the Hawks with seven goals and 11 helpers for 18 points. Meyers' 11 assists are second most in the NEWHA while her point total is tied for third.
  • Senior Kelly Golini (Tewksbury, Mass.) and Turner are tied for second on the team with 14 points each. Both student-athletes have netted six goals and assisted eight others.
  • Freshman Gracee Donovan (Orchard Park, N.Y.) recorded two assists against the Ravens and was rewarded with the NEWHA Rookie of the Week for the first time in her career.
  • Leading the way in goal for the Hawks is junior Allie Kelley (East Berne, N.Y.) who leads the conference with 731 total saves. She ranks third in save percentage with a .931 and fifth in goals-against average at 2.80. Kelley is 7-11-2 in her first season on the Hilltop.
  • Saint Anselm is 7-94 on the power play, good for a 7.4% conversion rate. The team is killing penalties at 86.5%, allowing 13 goals in 96 times shorthanded.
  • The Hawks are the fourth-ranked team in the NEWHA standings with 13 points. They trail Sacred Heart by two points and Franklin Pierce, who is in second, by three points. Saint Anselm was projected to finish fourth the Preseason Coaches' Poll.
SCOUTING POST
  • In the weekend series against Sacred Heart, the Eagles potted three goals coming from Casey Van Den Oetelaar, Sadie Storm, and Kiersten Browning.
  • Browning leads the team with five goals and nine points. She is tied for the team lead in assists with four.
  • Storm and Julia Wysocki are tied for second on the squad with seven points each. Storm has scored four times and assisted on three others while Wysocki netted three goals and dished four assists.
  • Grace Glasrud and Kaitlyn Daly have started eight games each for the Eagles. Glasrud has a .916 save percentage and a 3.58 goals-against average while Daly holds a 3.88 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage. Kristen Smith and Lexi Levy have combined to draw seven started in goal for the team.
  • The Eagles have scored two power play goals in 94 chances, converting at 2.1%. They have been shorthanded 107 times and have allowed 15 goals in those scenarios which translates to an 86% penalty kill rate.
  • Post sits in fifth in the conference standings with four points. The team was selected to finish sixth in the NEWHA Preseason Coaches' Poll.
ALL-TIME vs. POST
  • The weekend series marks the 16th and 17th meetings in the all-time series. Saint Anselm is 15-0 against Post all-time.
  • Earlier this season, the Hawks captured a weekend sweep of the Eagles on Nov. 12 and Nov. 13 by 5-1 and 3-0 scores. Between the two contests, Saint Anselm had six student-athletes find the back of the net with freshman Audrey Jackson (Shoreview, Minn.) and Donovan scoring in each contest. 10 student-athletes recorded at least one point in the series.
  • Freshman Annabella Lalande (Plantagenet, Ontario) made her first collegiate start on Nov. 13, posting her first-career shutout as well.
  • Eight of the 15 meetings have been shutouts for the Hawks.
