PREVIEW: Men's basketball welcomes Franklin Pierce to the Hilltop on Wednesday

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The regionally-ranked Saint Anselm College men's basketball team hosts Franklin Pierce University on Wednesday, Feb. 16.

The Hawks suffered an 81-78 setback against Assumption University on Feb. 10. Saint Anselm is now 13-7 on the season with a 9-6 mark against Northeast-10 Conference opponents. After hosting the Ravens, the Hawks welcome Saint Michael's College to the Hilltop for their final home game of the regular season. Prior to that contest, Saint Anselm will honor its senior class with a senior day celebration.

The Ravens fell to the University of New Haven by an 84-55 score on Feb. 14. The team is now 12-8 overall and 9-6 against the league. After making the in-state trip, Franklin Pierce hosts Le Moyne College in the first of three home games to close the regular season. The Ravens are receiving votes in the D2SIDA East Region Poll.

Fans attending Wednesday's game are expected to familiarize themselves with the College's spectator and ticketing policies.

SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
  • Saint Anselm is the 10th-ranked team in the East Region according to the most recent D2SIDA regional poll. The Hawks are 8-3 when playing at home this season while posting a 5-4 mark when on the road.
  • Senior Miles Tention (Palo Alto, Calif.) drained a game-high 27 points against the Greyhounds on 9-15 shooting, including 7-12 from beyond the arc. Classmate Chris Paul (Highland Mills, N.Y.) added 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds while junior Tyler Arbuckle (Bristol, Conn.) chipped in 15 points.
  • Paul is averaging 19.3 points per game which is fifth most in the NE10. From the free throw line, the senior is 112-156, good for a 71.8 make percentage. His makes and attempts are the most in the conference while his success rate is 16th best. Paul has collected 151 rebounds on the season which ranks ninth in the NE10.
  • The senior surpassed Darren Clough '96 for seventh in the all-time scoring list. Paul sits at 1,763 career points, just 19 behind Matt Burdick '82 for the sixth spot on the leader board.
  • Arbuckle and Tention rank second and third on the team in scoring average, netting 14.1 and 13.9 points per game, respectively.
  • Sophomore Matt Becker (Fairfield, Conn.) and senior Gustav Suhr-Jessen (Virum, Denmark) average 6.6 and 6.1 boards per game for the Hawks.
  • Saint Anselm leads the NE10 in free throw attempts per game (19.6). They rank second free throw makes (13.4), defensive rebounds per game (28.9), and are third in rebounds per game (38.5).
SCOUTING FRANKLIN PIERCE
  • Franklin Pierce is 5-6 when playing as the road team this season, compared to a 7-1 mark when playing at home. They are 0-1 in neutral site games.
  • Matt Hofrenning netted 17 points off the bench for the Ravens in the loss to the Chargers, which was a game-high. Mohamed Traore and Isaiah Moore added double-digit scoring outputs for Franklin Pierce. Donnavan Bonilla grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
  • Moore leads the NE10 in scoring, averaging 21.9 points per game. He ranks fourth in total points scored with 395. Moore ranks third in the conference in assists per game, averaging 5.9.
  • Maxwell Zegarowski and Traore are second and third on the team in scoring, averaging 14.6 and 13.2 points per game.
  • Zegarowski is pulling down a team-high 6.3 rebounds per game, which is 15th best in the NE10.
  • The Ravens lead the NE10 in field goal attempts (67.4), three-point field goals made (11.1), three-points attempts (30.4), and turnovers (10.2). The team is second in points (78.8) and field goals made (29.2). All of these are per game averages.
ALL-TIME vs. FRANKLIN PIERCE
  • This marks the 61st meeting in the all-time series between the Hawks and Ravens. Saint Anselm owns a 41-19 record against Franklin Pierce.
  • The Ravens captured a 92-68 win over the Hawks on Nov. 20 at Franklin Pierce. Tention, Paul, and senior Alonzo Jackson (Medford, Mass.) all poured in double-digits for the Hawks offense. Moore netted a game-high 35 points for the Ravens. The Hawks have not allowed any other opponent to reach the 90-point threshold this season.
  • When playing at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium, the Hawks enjoy a 25-3 record over Franklin Pierce, compared to a 14-12 mark when playing in Rindge, N.H.
