PREVIEW: Men's basketball faces American Int'l on Thursday

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's basketball team heads to American International College on Thursday, Dec. 8 for a 7:30 p.m. showdown with the Yellow Jackets.

Saint Anselm has won three in a row and four of its last five dating back to mid-November, thanks to an 84-73 victory at home against Adelphi on Saturday, Dec. 3. The one blemish came in Northeast-10 Conference play at Pace, 74-47, on Tuesday, Nov. 22.

American International is 3-6 overall, having lost last time out at Le Moyne by an 87-58 score. The team is an even 2-2 versus the league, knocking off Saint Michael's by one point on Saturday, Dec. 3 and downing Assumption in overtime in the league opener, 78-76, on Tuesday, Nov. 22.

SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM

  • Junior Tyler Arbuckle (Bristol, Conn.) scored 26 points in his team's 84-73 victory over visiting Adelphi University on Saturday. Arbuckle's season-high point total was fueled by a 10-for-14 performance from the floor, cashing in with three triples to tie four of his teammates for the team lead.
  • Collectively, the Hawks were 15-for-23 (65.2%) from distance against the Panthers, shooting over 65 percent for the first time since the 2015-16 season.
  • Senior Owen McGlashan (Marlton, N.J.) scored 13 points, totaling eight rebounds and seven assists, with sophomore Zac Taylor (Victoria, Australia), senior Miles Tention (Palo Alto, Calif.) and junior Matt Becker (Fairfield, Conn.) producing exactly 15 points. Becker was his team's leader with 10 rebounds, handing out four assists while tallying two steals and as many blocks.
  • Tention reached 200 career three-point baskets in a Hawks uniform last time out, becoming the 16th in team history to reach that milestone. His 42.2% three-point field goal percentage ranks fifth all-time among those with a minimum of 100 made.
  • The Hawks are 3-0 at home this year and have won each of their last five games played at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium. Across the last 13 seasons at home under Head Coach Keith Dickson, Saint Anselm has won 147 of a possible 183 games for an 80.3% winning percentage.
  • Dickson has compiled a 686-356 (.658) record at Saint Anselm in 36 seasons since his promotion to Head Coach in 1986. Among active NCAA Division II coaches, Dickson ranks fifth in victories (686).

SCOUTING AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL

  • Three student-athletes average north of 10 points per game, including freshman Jack Hall and his 12.6 points per game. Junior Jalen Jordan and sophomore Justice Ellison are totaling 12.0 and 11.8 points, respectively, per contest.
  • Omarion Jett-Dobbs has handed out 3.9 assists per game and is fourth in the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.94).
  • American International commits just 11.5 fouls per game, ranking second in the nation behind only New Haven (11.0). In five of the team's nine games so far, the Yellow Jackets have been whistled for 10 or fewer fouls.
  • The Yellow Jackets turn the ball over just 11 times per game, on average, to rank second in the NE10 behind Bentley (11.2). American International is the last-ranked team in the conference in rebound margin (-9.4), rebounds per game (29.62), and points per game (62.4).

ALL-TIME vs. AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL

  • The Hawks own a 78-46 (.629) all-time record against the Yellow Jackets, the most wins against any one opponent in Saint Anselm history.
  • Saint Anselm has won 18 of the last 22 games played against American International, with two of those four losses coming in overtime.
  • The very first meeting between AIC and Saint Anselm was played on Feb. 2, 1935, a 40-25 victory for the Hawks.
