MANCHESTER, N.H. – Graduate student
Kelly Golini (Tewksbury, Mass.) became just the ninth Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey student-athlete to reach 100 career points in Saturday's 4-2 loss to Merrimack College.
The Hawks drop to 11-10-1 on the season while the Warriors move to 7-13-1 on their season. Saint Anselm will head to the University of New Hampshire on Monday, Jan. 2 for a 6 p.m. opening puckdrop from Durham, N.H. The tilt will be the first for Saint Anselm athletics in the 2023 calendar year.
Golini was credited with a secondary assist on the third-period goal by senior
Margaret Sullivan (Burlington, Mass.). Golini needs just one helper to reach 50 for her collegiate career.
Sullivan and sophomore
Audrey Jackson (Shoreview, Minn.) tallied the Hawks goals in the contest with Golini and three other Hawks collecting one assist each.
Merrimack jumped on the scoreboard at 7:08 of the opening period as
Katie Kaufman collected a pass in the neutral zone and drove to the slot. She would fire a wrist shot into the upper left of the goal to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead.
Madison Oelkers doubled the lead for Merrimack at 11:54 of the first period as she cleaned up a loose puck at the top of the crease. A feed from
Alex Ferguson was deflected which allowed Oelkers to crash the net and bury the scoring chance.
The Warriors extended the advantage to three at 16:27 of the middle frame as
Alexa Pongo fired a shot that went off the pipe but the carom came back to Pongo. Her rebound shot managed to beat senior netminder
Allie Kelley (East Berne, N.Y.) to push the score to 3-0.
The Hawks would strike at 12:59 of the third period on Sullivan's third goal of the season. Golini got the play started with an outlet pass to junior
Natalie Tulchinsky (Clifton Park, N.Y.). Tulchinsky dropped a pass for Sullivan who drove into the zone and snapped a shot into the back of the net.
Teghan Inglis managed to keep a loose puck in the Merrimack attending end and would drive around the goal. She sent a pass to Oelkers in the slot but a quick, one-touch pass set up Inglis for the fourth Merrimack goal of the contest just 1:34 after the Sullivan goal.
Jackson added her fifth goal of the 2022-23 season at 17:43 of the third period. Jackson grabbed a loose puck in the neutral zone and made a strong move in a one-on-three to gain a clear path to the goal. Jackson deked to the forehand which opened the goal for her to cap the scoring in the contest.
In the contest, the Hawks were scoreless on three power play chances while Merrimack was one-for-four on the power play. The Warriors held a 43-25 edge in shots on goal. Saint Anselm blocked 13 shots in the tilt with junior
Savannah Popick (South Windsor, Conn.) leading the Hawks with three.
Kelley turned aside 39 of 43 shots on target in the contest while her counterpart,
Calli Hogarth, made 23 saves.
