MANCHESTER, N.H. – Junior Tyler Arbuckle (Bristol, Conn.) of the Saint Anselm College men's basketball team scored 26 points, sending the Hawks to an 84-73 victory over visiting Adelphi University on Saturday in Northeast-10 Conference play.
Saint Anselm exits play with a 5-3 overall record alongside a 4-1 mark in NE10 competition. Adelphi remains winless through its four league games this season, dropping to 3-5 with the result. The Hawks head to American International on Thursday, Dec. 8 for a 3:30 p.m. tilt.
Arbuckle's season-high point total was fueled by a 10-for-14 performance from the floor, cashing in with three triples to tie four of his teammates for the team lead. Collectively, the Hawks were 15-for-23 (65.2%) from distance, shooting over 65 percent for the first time since the 2015-16 season.
Senior Owen McGlashan (Marlton, N.J.) scored 13 points, totaling eight rebounds and seven assists, with sophomore Zac Taylor (Victoria, Australia), senior Miles Tention (Palo Alto, Calif.) and junior Matt Becker (Fairfield, Conn.) producing exactly 15 points. The Hawks could not miss in the game's first six-plus minutes, building a 20-5 lead with seven of the team's first 11 shots finding the bottom of the net. Taylor had seven points in that stretch while Tention added scoring support with six points, building the early 15-point advantage.
Down at one point by 12, Adelphi came roaring back with nine of the game's next 10 points with under five minutes to go in the opener. The Panthers trimmed the deficit to just four points with 1:08 to go before the Hawks scored two baskets in the final 51 seconds, including a Taylor hook shot and a Tention driving layup.
Adelphi hung around in the first 10 minutes of the second half, reducing the Hawks lead to just three points off a triple by Nashua's Ronnie Silva with 12:14 to go. Saint Anselm put the game out of reach with an 18-7 scoring run, keyed by 10 points by Arbuckle that came on two layup and two three's.
Saint Anselm handed out a total of 18 assists on the day, reaching that figure for the third time in eight games this season. Adelphi shot 50% from the floor in the second half (13-for-26), but the Hawks were up to the task, matching the percentage exactly with a 16-for-32 performance.
Silva scored a game-high 16 points in defeat for Adelphi, who has won just one game against the Hawks since the 2012-13 season.
