Saint Anselm has lost four in a row, dropping to 2-7 overall and to 1-6 against Northeast-10 Conference opponents. After the Post contest, the Hawks host nationally-ranked Daemen on Sunday, Dec. 18 at 12 p.m. in Stoutenburgh Gymnasium.
Post has racked up seven wins in its first 12 games of the season, a record that includes a 2-1 performance against Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opposition. The Eagles have lost two in a row entering Friday's tilt, dropping each game to NE10 opponents.
Daemen, the NCAA Division II East Region Champion in 2021 and a regional finalist in 2022, has racked up a 7-1 overall record and a 3-1 mark in the East Coast Conference. The team's lone loss came on Friday, Dec. 9 at Saint Thomas Aquinas in overtime.
SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
- Six of the first nine games of the season have been played at home for Saint Anselm. In total, nine of the first 14 games of the season will
- Saint Anselm was saddled with a 58-46 road loss at American International College on Thursday, Dec. 8. Junior Gabby Turco (Wildwood, N.J.) paced the Hawks offense with 16 points and eight rebounds while sophomore Melanie Hoyt (Stamford, N.Y.) scored 10 points with five rebounds.
- Senior Liv Robles (Wallingford, Conn.) handed out five assists against AIC, including four in the first half, and threw up three blocks in defeat. She is ranked second in the NE10 with 6.6 defensive rebounds per game and is 42nd in the nation in that metric.
- Ahead by a 39-34 margin with 4:11 to go in the third quarter versus the Yellow Jackets, the Hawks made just one of their final 16 attempts from the floor, including an 0-for-13 mark in the final quarter of action, while committing nine turnovers in that span. AIC scored 24 of the game's final 31 points.
- The Hawks lead the NE10 and rank ninth in all of NCAA Division II in free throw percentage (80.3%). Turco ranks third in the nation with a 95.3% rate from the charity stripe, making 41 out of a possible 43 attempts in 2022-23.
- Saint Anselm is dishing out 14.1 assists per tilt, the third-best figure in the NE10. Senior Macy Spinks (Luton, England) ranks eighth in the NE10 in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.92).
SCOUTING POST
- The Eagles have recently posted a 62-43 loss at Southern New Hampshire and a 65-48 defeat at Franklin Pierce just two days later. Post made a lengthy non-league trip in late November, beating Alaska Fairbanks by a 82-69 score on Friday, Nov. 25 before falling to Montana State Billings the next day, 66-45.
- The Eagles commit just 13.3 fouls per game, on average, to rank eighth in the nation and third in the CACC. The team also performs well on the offensive glass, hauling in 15.9 offensive boards per game to rank 17th in the country.
- Tijanae Simmons has posted 109 three-point basket attempts on the season, leading all student-athletes in NCAA Division II. Her 35 made three-pointers is fourth in the nation as she is averaging 2.92 successful shots from distance per contest.
- Post is throwing up a league-best 3.8 blocks per game, ranking 41st in NCAA Division II. Roxkel Washington has 23 rejections to her credit and her 1.92 blocks per game ranks second in the CACC.
- The Eagles have shot under 30% from the floor in each of the team's last three losses.
SCOUTING DAEMEN
- Daemen checks in as the No. 19 team in NCAA Division II, according to the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association's Top 25 Coaches Poll, and is also No. 22 in the Division II Sports Information Directors of America National Poll.
- The team opened with a 6-0 record, its best start since joining NCAA Division II prior to the 2015-16 campaign. The team's lone defeat came in overtime against Saint Thomas Aquinas and still has not lost in regular-season regulation time since Feb. 18, 2022, also to STAC.
- The Wildcats last regular-season road loss was at Lubbock Christian on Nov. 20, 2021 – the Lady Chaps were the No. 1 team in NCAA Division II at the time and were the defending National Championship-winnings quad.
- Daemen opened the season with exhibition games at Buffalo (Sunday, Oct. 30) and Michigan (Saturday, Nov. 5). The Wolverines were set to open their official schedule as the No. 25 team in NCAA Division I and secured an 87-32 victory over the Wildcats.
- The Wildcats rank sixth in NCAA Division II in three-point field goal defense (22.3%) and are eighth in three-point percentage (39.6%) – Paige Emborsky ranks fourth in the country as an individual with a 61.5% (24-for-39) three-point field goal percentage.
ALL-TIME vs. POST, DAEMEN
- Saint Anselm is a perfect 4-0 against the Eagles in team history, dating back to Nov. 28, 2007. The Hawks enjoy a +102 scoring differential in the all-time series, winning by margins of 15, 23, 25 and 39.
- The Hawks are also undefeated in four games against Daemen all-time, most recently securing a 75-70 victory over the nationally-ranked Wildcats on Nov. 12, 2021.
