No. 9 field hockey matches team record with 10 goals

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The nationally-ranked Saint Anselm College field hockey team matched a program record with 10 goals on Saturday in a shutout victory over Molloy University on Senior Day.

No. 9 Saint Anselm (10-5, 9-2 NE10) equaled the program record of 10 goals, established against New Haven on Oct. 10, 2017. The Hawks also established a new team record in point scoring (10-8=28), thanks to eight assists, the second-most in a game in team annals.

The Hawks scored all 10 goals in the game's first 27-plus minutes and did not take a shot attempt against Molloy (1-14, 0-11 NE10) for the remaining 32:23 of game play.

Junior Maddie Davis (Exeter, N.H.) posted two goals and an assist for three points (2-1=3), scoring twice for the third consecutive game. In her last five games, she has totaled seven goals and four assists for 18 points (7-4=18) and now has nine assists, falling one short of tying the single-season record for helpers.

Senior Maggie Malloy (Canton, Mass.) recorded an assist in the victory, extending her point-scoring streak to five games. Since Oct. 19 against Southern New Hampshire, Malloy has posted eight goals with four assists for 20 points (8-4=20) and ranks third all-time with 32 points (13-6=32) in a single season.

Sophomore Amanda Lewandowski (Franklin, Mass.) had a hand in her team's first three goals, helping the Hawks to a 3-0 lead through the game's first 6:21. She scored what proved to be the game-winning goal just 2:05 in and added assists on the next two strikes, giving her eight points (2-4=8) in her last four contests.

Seniors Joanna Archambault (Andover, Mass.) and Shelby Dunn (Yarmouthport, Mass.) rounded out the goal scoring by Hawks starters as the relief corps for the Hawks packed the game's remaining punch. Junior Shannon Walsh (Chelmsford, Mass.) and junior Abbey Bevens (Pelham, N.H.) had a goal and an assist, leading the Saint Anselm substitutes.

Freshman Kaitlyn West (Nashua, N.H.), junior Liv Strange (Tyngsborough, Mass.) and sophomore Stephanie Sutton-Brown (Ashby, Mass.) rounded out the goal scorers for Saint Anselm. The latter two student-athletes struck for their first collegiate goals in the decisive victory.

The goaltending tandem of junior Mackenzie McConnell (Concord Township, Maine) and sophomore Sidney Falterer (Fairfield, Conn.) combined to keep Molloy off the board. Falterer turned aside both shots on net that she faced.

Ally Saigh made seven saves on 17 shots in the first half for Molloy before yielding to Gianna Festa in the final 30 minutes of game play.

The Hawks host Assumption on Monday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. from Grappone Stadium. Two of the final three contests for Saint Anselm will be played at home.
