Saint Anselm (2-3, 1-2 NE10) is coming off a convincing 61-37 victory over the reigning East Region Champions from Pace University. The Hawks are looking to post back-to-back victories for the first time all season.
Saint Rose (3-2, 2-1 NE10) recently secured a 75-62 win at home against New Haven, just three days after narrowly falling at Le Moyne by a 75-70 margin. The Golden Knights have won two of their first three games played against the NE10.
Le Moyne, who entered the week with a 3-2 overall record and a 1-1 mark against league foes, will battle Franklin Pierce on the road on Wednesday before coming to the Hilltop on Friday. The Dolphins clipped Saint Rose late, overcoming a fourth-quarter deficit to secure the win.
SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
- Against Pace, the Hawks used a big 22-0 scoring run in the first half and limited the Setters to just 37 points – Saint Anselm has held an opponent to 37 or fewer points on just eight occasions since the turn of the century.
- Only 14 times have the Hawks kept an opponent to 37 or less points at their home venue in program history. Saint Anselm began its varsity women's basketball program in the 1976-77 academic year.
- Junior Gabby Turco (Wildwood, N.J.) posted 22 points, making eight of her 11 field goals against the Setters, while adding eight rebounds in just over 30 minutes of game play. Senior Liv Robles (Wallingford, Conn.) secured a career-high 11 rebounds, scoring as many points to record the first double-double of her collegiate career.
- Freshman Gina Gaccione (Rutherford, N.J.) cashed in with a career-high 11 points in 18 minutes versus Pace, tallying five rebounds, with junior Alexa Quirolo (New Rochelle, N.Y.) scoring eight points off the bench with two triples to her credit.
- Saint Anselm leads the NE10 in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.11) as three student-athletes have double-digit helpers. Senior Macy Spinks (Luton, England) leads the way with 21 assists and just nine miscues on the season in five games.
SCOUTING SAINT ROSE
- Saint Rose is projected to finish last out of 13 programs according to the NE10's Preseason Coaches' Poll released in late October. The team posted a 6-17 overall record last season, winning five of the team's 18 games in league play.
- The Golden Knights had a strong finish to their season, winning three of their last five games after beginning the season with a 3-15 overall record.
- Isabel Sanchez leads Saint Rose with 15.2 points per game, connecting on 10 of her first 26 three-point attempts of the season. Aniya McDonald-Perry is the other double-digit points per game producer on the roster, shooting 22-for-54 (40.7%) from the floor in the early goings.
- The Golden Knights are averaging 21 offensive rebounds per game, ranking second in the nation behind only West Virginia State (22). Saint Rose is conceding just 55 offensive rebounds to its opponents through the first five games of the 2022-23 campaign.
- McDonald-Perry is hauling in 11.4 rebounds per game, reeling in more offensive (32) than defensive (25) rebounds across the first five games of her season. She is the NCAA Division II leader in offensive rebounds per game (6.4) this season.
SCOUTING LE MOYNE
- Le Moyne, voted by the NE10 coaches to finish third out of 13 teams in the league's Preseason Coaches' Poll, trailed only Bentley and Southern Connecticut State on the preseason list. The Dolphins tripped up Saint Anselm in last season's NE10 Quarterfinals by a 64-60 margin on Feb. 28, 2022.
- Le Moyne qualified for the NCAA Division II Championship last season, falling to Bentley in the NE10 Semifinals but using the quarterfinals win over the Hawks to sneak into the postseason. The Dolphins were overwhelmed by USciences, 64-38, in the Quarterfinals round.
- The Dolphins are averaging 16.6 made free throws per game, ranking first in the NE10 and 25th in all of NCAA Division II. As a team, Le Moyne is shooting 77.6% from the line (83-for-107) and has 49 more free throws attempted than the opposition.
- Four are averaging double-digit point scoring totals for the Dolphins, led by Haedyn Roberts and her team-best 17.2 points per game. She has made 24 of her 28 free throws (85.7%) and is shooting north of 50% from the floor (31-for-59).
ALL-TIME vs. SAINT ROSE, LE MOYNE
- The Hawks trail the all-time series with Saint Rose by a 17-13 margin, but Saint Anselm has won each of the last four meetings by double-digit point scoring totals.
- The Golden Knights won eight games in a row between Jan. 9, 2007 and Jan. 15, 2011.
- Le Moyne and Saint Anselm each have 21 victories in the all-time series that dates back to Jan. 18, 1997.
- Each of the last four games between the Hawks and Dolphins have been decided by four points or less, including a 63-61 win over Le Moyne in the East Region Championship game played on Mar. 18, 2019.
