Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Kelley's record 56 saves lock down 2-0 win at Dartmouth

HANOVER, N.H. – Senior Allie Kelley (East Berne, N.Y.) turned aside 56 shots on goal, the most in a win and a shutout in Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey program history, aiding the team to a 2-0 win over Dartmouth College in non-league action on Sunday.

With the win, the Hawks improve to 10-9-1 on the season while the Big Green drop to 3-7-0 on their season. Saint Anselm concludes its fall semester on Tuesday, Nov. 29 at Post University with the opening puck drop slated for 3:30 p.m. from Shelton, Conn.

Graduate student Kelly Golini (Tewksbury, Mass.) netted her 50th career goal in the second period and becomes just the sixth student-athlete to reach that mark in a career in program history. The goal also marked the 10th of the season for the Hawks co-captain.

Junior Natalie Tulchinsky (Clifton Park, N.Y.) registered her seventh multi-point effort of the season and her third in the team's last four games. The junior registered an assist on the eventual game-winning tally by Golini and added insurance late in the third period with an empty netter.

Kelley's 56-save effort is the third most in a single game in program history and is the seventh game with 50 or more saves in her career on the Hilltop.

In consecutive seasons, the Hawks and Big Green have split their home-and-home series and now have won two games apiece through four games in the all-time series. The Hawks 2-0 result on Sunday is the first contest against the Big Green with a final goal differential of more than one.

The best scoring chance for the Hawks in the first period came while shorthanded at 8:32. Sophomore Tyra Turner (Andover, Minn.) made a strong move around a Dartmouth defender and was in on goal. However, the Big Green goaltender Elle Sullivan turned aside Turner's shot attempt to preserve the scoreless tilt.

Dartmouth held a 26-7 advantage in shots on goal in the opening 20 minutes but Kelley turned aside all 26 to push the teams to the intermission in a scoreless tie.

The Hawks netted the game's opening goal at 13:35 of the second period as Golini buried a cross-crease pass from sophomore Audrey Jackson (Shoreview, Minn.). Tulchinsky forced a turnover in the Saint Anselm attacking end and found Jackson who drove toward the goal, sending the feed to her left to Golini for the goal.

Kelley added 20 saves in the second stanza alone, bringing her game total to 46 through two periods of play.

Tulchinsky gave the Hawks a 2-0 lead with 55 seconds remaining in the third period, cashing in on an empty-net goal. The junior now sits on 13 goals in the 2022-23 campaign.

The Big Green put 56 shots on goal compared to 20 for the Hawks. Neither side converted on their power play chances as the Hawks had three power plays while Dartmouth had six. As a team, Saint Anselm blocked 20 shots in front of Kelley, led by sophomore Madi Ressler (Brighton, Mich.) and junior Savannah Popick (South Windsor, Conn.) who had three blocks each.
