Four third-period tallies push women's ice hockey to 5-2 win at Franklin Pierce

RINDGE, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team netted four third-period goals to claim a 5-2 win over Franklin Pierce University in New England Women's Hockey Alliance play on Friday.

The Hawks extend their unbeaten streak to five and move to 7-7-1 on the season with the win and to 7-2-1 in NEWHA play. The Ravens drop to 3-6-1 overall and 2-2-1 in league tilts. The teams will conclude their home-and-home series on Saturday, Nov. 12 from Sullivan Arena with the opening puck drop slated for 2 p.m.

Graduate student Kelly Golini (Tewksbury, Mass.) and junior Natalie Tulchinsky (Clifton Park, N.Y.) netted a pair of goals each in the contest while junior Maddy McCaffery (Weymouth, Mass.) potted one goal for Saint Anselm. Golini and Tulchinsky added an assist each, closing the tilt with three points while sophomore Tyra Turner (Andover, Minn.) dished a team-high two helpers.

Golini opened the scoring at 4:55 of the second period with a power play goal. The graduate student one-timed home a feed from Turner to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead.

Franklin Pierce got on the board with a power play tally of its own, courtesy of Jenna Ruiz, just 2:01 after the Golini strike. Ruiz fired a wrist shot into the upper corner following a cross-ice pass.

The Ravens grabbed the lead with their second extra skater goal of the tilt, this one coming from Emilie Privie. Privie fired a shot that was turned aside by Saint Anselm net minder Allie Kelley (East Berne, N.Y.) but Privie managed to net a rebound chance to give the hosts a 2-1 lead at 18:53 of the second period.

A pair of goals, one apiece by Tulchinsky and Golini, in the opening 3:14 of the third period gave the Hawks a 3-2 lead. Tulchinsky buried a rebound just 31 second into the stanza before Golini netted the eventual game-winning goal with a redirect off a feed from Turner. Junior Claire Kuipers (Eden Prairie, Minn.) registered an assist on Golini's tally, marking the first of her collegiate career.

Tulchinsky and McCaffery added a pair of empty net goals to push the score to 5-2 in the first leg of the home-and-home series.

Saint Anselm netted one goal on six power play chances while Franklin Pierce was two-for-five on the power play. The Ravens held a slight 30-28 edge in shots on goal in the contest.

Kelley turned aside 28 of 30 shots on goal in the win for the Hawks while Jill Hertl made 23 stops for Franklin Pierce.
