SHELTON, Conn. – The Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team skated by Post University by a 4-0 on Tuesday in New England Women's Hockey Alliance action.
With the win, the Hawks improve to 4-7-1 on the season with a 4-2-1 record in NEWHA contests while the Eagles drop to 1-8-0 overall and in league tilts. Saint Anselm is back in action on Friday, Nov. 4 when they host Stonehill College in the first leg of a home-and-home series with the Skyhawks. The opening puck drop from Sullivan Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Sophomore
Gracee Donovan (Orchard Park, N.Y.), junior
Natalie Tulchinsky (Clifton Park, N.Y.), senior
Devin Porazinski (Parker, Colo.), and graduate student
Kelly Golini (Tewksbury, Mass.) netted one goal each for the Hawks in the contest.
Neither side managed to find the back of the net in the opening 20 minutes. Saint Anselm held a 9-3 edge in shots on goal and had a five-on-three power play but could not convert on the chance.
The Hawks would strike twice in the second stanza as Donovan collected a pass in the neutral zone from classmate
Audrey Jackson (Shoreview, Minn.). Donovan drove into the attacking end and fired a wrist shot by Eagles goaltender
Grace Glasrud to give Saint Anselm a 1-0 lead at 16:07. Freshman
Ella Ridge (Chicago, Ill.) earned the secondary assist on the play for her first collegiate point.
Tulchinsky doubled the lead just 1:55 later when she grabbed a rebound and worked her way to the top of the slot. Tulchinsky's shot from the top of the slot found the twine through traffic for the Saint Anselm 2-0 edge.
Porazinski extended the lead to 3-0 at 4:00 of the third period with her third goal of the season. The senior crashed the net following a shot off the post from Jackson and cleaned up the rebound chance.
Just 1:05 later, Golini grabbed a loose puck in front of the goal and snapped a shot into the left side of the net, pushing the Saint Anselm lead to 4-0.
Saint Anselm held a 37-18 advantage in shots on goal and was one-for-six on the power play while Post was scoreless in its four chances. The Hawks won 34 of 56 faceoffs taken in the tilt.
Senior
Allie Kelley (East Berne, N.Y.) made 18 saves in the shutout win while Glasrud turned aside 33 shots for the Eagles.
